Today I checked my email. I thought junk mail was bad. No biggie. delete. Today, I get an email telling me the joys of becoming a christian. There is a new life for YOU!!! the subject tells me. I’m wondering if this is a one time thing, or if I’m going to get this more often. And there’s no link on it. No way to remove myself from the list. UGH!!!

What’s the problem? Sounds like all you have to do is join their little club and everything will be peachy.
Hotmail has a new filter called Inbox protector, and throws all unspecified mail into a “bulk mail” folder. I just turned it on this evening, we’ll see how effective it is.
And Outlook Express has a “block sender” feature.
Anyone here know if someone you’ve blocked knows they’re blocked?

Ohhh that would be sweet. Send their worthless blather back to them with the message “Your unsolicited fourth-class junk mail has been rejected. Please take this message as notice to crawl under a rock and die”.
If even half of what spammers sent out came back to them they’d drown in their own garbage.

I seriously doubt it. Most old-school mailreaders (I use Agent, which is actually not all that old-school, but the principal is the same) have a deal called a killfile. All it does (See the above parenthetical comment) is read the From: header and route the mail as you define: into a special folder, marks the message read, deletes it, or whatever. There is no notification to the sender that you have killfiled them.
There is a similar device on many newsreaders (<#include parenthetical_comment.h> ) which performs any of the actions described above on defined users’ posts. Again, the killfiled user will not know, unless you issue the Usenet Standard Notification, which is to quote the post that triggered the killfiling, then insert a <PLONK> below it. Everybody will know exactly what you mean if you type that.
