I object to the way this thread was closed, i.e. the contents of the final post

The thread closed is about the degenerate gambler (self-described) and their experiences with a hotel thermostat. (Note lack of moderator yellow, which did not copy from the original post.)

@What_Exit, this poster’s status is still supposedly an open issue, in which case you are seriously poisoning the discussion in advance. There are many neutral ways you might have phrased this, but this way makes you look like you’re jumping on this poster with both feet. It’s not a good look for a supposedly neutral moderator, in my opinion.

I’m not arguing with closing the thread. But please just stop and think about the words you are using. I don’t see that such haste was required that you had to post without taking your time to do it well.

I don’t like the way it came down either.

Seems like a witch hunt.

Ding him on actual trangressions. Sure.

Asking for help to make a case is also kinda lame. If there’s not a case for banning, lets just make one.

I bet every poster has enough bad posts or threads that could be tallied up to a case for banning.

Not good.

I don’t even understand why it was closed. The OP did something that the hotel apparently does not want you to do (although even then they did not even have an explicit prohibition against it), but it was not illegal as far as I can tell.

I’ll tell you why. He’s disliked.

Simple as that.

W, theres a link that shows all of his threads. A lot of them seem to be trolling.
Its not about what he did at the hotel.

Which discussion? The mod discussion?

They’re a troll and I’ll be trying to convince the modloop of said.

What discussion am I poisoning.

That modloop might as well be public. Taking your case to the courtroom steps is a bad look.

OK. Not much of a case.
They’ll be gone in the morning.
The evidence was massive by this point.
The agreement was strong this one trolled us for a year.

I disagree that the OP is a troll. What I have found is he takes a position and then tries to convince you he’s right. If you disagree with him, you don’t understand. Maybe I don’t understand the SD definition of a troll but according to my understanding there are a few posters that are a lot more troll-like than DG that get a pass.

Specific to this discussion, it is highly inappropriate for a mod to label him a troll publicly unless that is the verdict of the mod loop. Otherwise it is just your opinion. I personally think he has a mental illness (not inflammatory. i think he needs help) but that doesn’t make him a troll.

I will miss his diatribes about dark neighborhoods and the joys of White Castle ‘burgers’ purchased with spare change after he burns his paycheck in the slots but I can’t disagree with the assessment of his character.

Stranger

After looking at that posters thread, I see where What_Exit is going, and I do detect a whiff of troll. Questionable.

But “evidence was massive”? There I disagree.

It was a sock, it will be banned in the morning.

There were other possible explanations as well. Maybe What_Exit and the mods already knew he was a troll, but the way it was written in the thread, it seemed like What_Exit had already decided, publicly called him out on it and was determined to prove it (after the public accusation) even if it harelipped everybody on Bear Creek.

That makes sense.

But now we know that was a sock, so goodbye.

The Mods work in mysterious ways.

Fair, poorly communicated by me.

The surety of their being a troll had achieved 100%. I’ve been a little distracted lately or I would have done this last week probably.

Honestly I’m glad. I was really fearing for his mental health. Glad to know he was just a jerk.

This is an important point not explicitly made before.

It’s a statement that isn’t pronounced publicly unless the modloop has firm technical evidence (“The Best Kind”).

Argue what you will about the trolling, but this is a capital offense here.

There are a lot of pieces at play.
The casual misogyny, the series of subtly troll OPs, 2 different behind the scenes flags, general moderator concensus that also more trouble than they were worth.

We’ve had an eye on this one almost from the beginning. They come up often in flag discussions.
