I know.
You know sites where you can say whatever the fuck you want no matter how nonsensical it might be, and anyone who questions you is deemed a “hater”? This ain’t that place, and that is precisely why I love it here.
Yeah, but you get to be, and stay, a moderator by keeping that separate from the job at hand.
I don’t want this place to be a “me too” or “plus 1” board.
I want to hear folks stories and clever writing doesn’t necessarily mean its untrue.
I also know, nothing is new here. Every thing has been questioned, discussed and talked about.
I love reading the old threads that show as similar threads. It’s funny, sometimes its the same person as an OP, asking the same question 8 years later. With similar responses.
We don’t need to choose between the two extremes of making everyone conform to the same thoughts on everything, and allowing people to do what they want.
There is a vast middle we can dwell in.
That’s legit.
I like it.
When posts are warned or modded its because the poster did something wrong.
People can’t imagine their posts are against the rules so some accuse mods of picking on them.
Right and wrong are subjective.
Ask a question of 30 people you’ll get at least 20 different responses.
It’s called conversation.
Equitable moderation is probably hard to achieve.
I never could be exactly equal with groups of people. I tried really hard to be fair. 100% never happened.
But baseless accusations of prejudice and discrimination are real simple, so I tend to avoid them.

The moderation here is incredibly even handed but martyrs will martyr.
And some will back them up…if only to watch the train wreck from a safe distance.

This board is a tiny subset of it’s previous self. And very much the worse for it.
I’m afraid I have to agree with this. Alas, it’s a choice of the community, not the moderators. They are just the wagons we have circled around ourselves.
You know this thread is about my poorly thought out and poorly worded closing of a troll and sock’s thead.
This is really off topic and banning trocks I hope is not what is wrong with the board.
Sure, but that’s not due to unfair moderation. While I’d love to see it grow, having it increase through socks and trolls isn’t going to make it a better place either.

Since we have gone completely away from the original topic, this is closed.
Message boards have declined in popularity quite a bit over the past decade or two. The SDMB has fared better than most. We’re still here and a lot of message boards have gone away completely.
If anyone wants to discuss the decline of the SDMB or message boards in general, feel free to create a new thread.
If anyone wants to discuss what they think is wrong with the SDMB in general, that is also a good topic for a new thread.
