I ordered a Creative Muvo MP3 player!

It has “only” 256MB, but it has solid-state memory and it’s very small. I didn’t want a player with a hard disk, because I’m sure it would fail sooner or later, just like my MiniDisc player did. It also doubles as a thumbdrive and voice-recorder.

Hey! Hella good choice.

My wife gave me one of these for my birthday two weeks ago, and it totally rocks. Almost the same as yours apart from the radio.

Slightly sucky user interface, but other than that, and that it doesn’t play M4A files, it’s brilliant. The sound quality is something else, and 256Mb is surely enough for normal human beings. The battery lasts forever on one charge, too.

Congratulations, you’re going to love it!

I just canceled the order! I like yours better, so I ordered that instead. Thanks!

BTW, why is the interface bad?

Glad to be of service!

The interface uses a little flicky button to step through a menu, that you push down choose an item. The menu options aren’t consistent, though - they’re contextual, so depending on which function you’re using, you get a different menu every time you click. There is, however, crossover, so you’ll find some items in more than one menu. It can get pretty confusing. However, I got used to it after a couple of days, but it’s no iPod in terms of usability…

Let me know what you think when it arrives!

I got it today

First impressions:
-I don’t know why, but it is larger than I expected. OK, maybe I’m too picky. The thing is tiny compared to my old MiniDisc player. :stuck_out_tongue:
(BTW my MD was this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005YXSI/qid=1095758381/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl/202-7542530-0543843 it can play discs, but it won’t record, so it is useless. And it skips a lot lately while running on the treadmill)

-I can’t believe how fast the file transfer is. I have a 2GB CompactFlash card (Lexar with Write Acceleration) that I use in my camera and for data transfer, but the Muvo is way faster than that.

-I find the wheel a bit sticky and hard to move. I hope it will get better with time.

-The menus are not too bad. Besides, I won’t use them too often

-I like the carrying case, but it covers the wheel and buttons!

-The sound quality is really good and I like the Equaliser function.

-Putting the songs in the desired order is a bit of a hassle. It automatically sorts them alphabeticaly so I guess the only way to change the order is to add numbers (01, 02, etc.) in front of the song filename.

All in all it is a great piece of equipment. Smaller and lighter than my old MD, with no moving parts, so it won’t fail that easily. Also the extra £20 for the MuVo Slim instead of the TX was money well spent.

Yeah, forgot to mention that. You should note that it can handle folders, so you can group the songs in different folders by band/genre/whatever, but only to one level - if you put folder Y in folder X, it won’t see folder Y.

Also, the online manual sucks. If you find out what A-B play mode is, please tell me. Actually, now I think about it - could that mean play them alphabetically? Must play around with it and find out.

Glad you like it. The headphones they supply give a very rich sound too. The equaliser is surprisingly effective I find. I have been playing it through my amp at home and in my car via a ‘fake tape’, so find I have to turn the EQ off to do this or it gets too bassy.

Online manual? You mean the one on the CD?

The A-B mode is for replaying a specific portion of a song. You can place two “markers”, one in the begining and one in the end of the desired portion(you can do that by depressing the wheel). Then, the selected part of the song will be played over and over again. The markers will go away if you select another song. Just another strange and not really useful feature.

Er, probably. Thought it was online.

If you guys have questions about the products, the Creative UK site has a messege board or you can wander over to nomadness.net and find lots of folks.

Maybe I am anal, but I always remove the battery before connecting the Muvo to my computer. I have the feeling that recharging the battery when it is not really needed will decrease its life.
