I pay 10% to God, Why should you get 18?

I saw the reddit before it blew up on the news sites and the poor user was running all over the comments telling people, “No, that’s not the person! Stop doxing!” I am quite sure that any future submissions from her will be scrubbed thoroughly of identifying information.

I think it’s more likely that she won’t be posting submissions to Reddit at all anymore.

Possible. Not under that username, certainly.

i was eating at an applebee’s with three of my friends in my early 20s, and it was close to closing (the restaurant was open for another hour), and they seated us outside. the service was abysmal (our server forgot about us, because we were outside), and at one point one of my friends wanted to use the restroom but quickly found we were locked outside. we emptied off the plates, piled them up, took them with us, and didn’t pay the bill.

i had a cool green wire apple shaped key-caddy in my apartment for the next few years.

The pastor was a complete asshole … however the server deserved to get fired. Waitresses are a dime a dozen, why would a restaurant keep someone around who brings them bad press?

Up top! high fives Revtim

Right. That’s a nice, steaming pile of dog crap. It makes no sense at all to write some snide remark which basically says “I don’t even give Dog 18% so why am I giving that to a waitress?” and mark a big zero on the tip line… and then leave a cash tip.

Well right. What waitress is going to take a tip and then post the tip-free receipt to Instagram? The posting online was because of the douchery. Waitresses get stiffed often enough that while it’s irritating, it’s not the end of the world to not be properly tipped, or tipped at all. It’s the “Fuck you; you’re not God” receipts that go online.

So I’m going to have the guts to take a bold stance on this issue: The pastor is a jackass.

By that logic, they should fire whoever fired the waitress.

So the pastor thinks of her donations to God as a service charge, as if he were working for her?

I don’t think a receipt with no tip but also no douchey comment would get much attention online, except from people wondering if the service was so bad that that was why no tip was left, or that maybe the tip was in cash. You guys do not need to worry.

Yeah, I think most servers/cashiers know the drill.

Which leads us to the time I wrote “-$20” on the tip line and totaled it that way.

“Because God hasn’t been on his feet all day bringing you mozzarella sticks for less than minimum wage.”

The pastor is an asshole, and I love PR baloney in her apology. “I’ve brought embarrassment to my church and my ministry?” Bullshit. You revealed that you’re a cheap piece of crap with no compassion for others and an outsize sense of your own importance. Not only did the pastor get the waitress fired, she tried to get a bunch of other people fired! ‘I am the great and powerful Pastor Nobody, and no man may challenge my tightfistedness!’

Not that it makes much difference, but the waitress who served these assholes is not the one who posted the picture to Reddit. One of her coworkers did it, and it’s the coworker who was fired. I’m sure she’ll have another job soonish, and I hope it’s at a better restaurant with fewer asshole customers.

I am sure that the receipt poster is awash with job offers right now. If I were in St Louis and hiring an entry level worker, I’d offer he a job in a hot second.

Yeah, comparing the percentages is hilarious. Could you imagine if restaurants took 18% of your income in gratuity every time you ate out? Maybe then she would have a point. Either that, or she tips God 10% on top of whatever he usually charges her?

She didn’t bring Applebee’s any bad press though did she? No one at Applebee’s looked bad in my opinion until the waitress was fired. Before that, it was just the pastor who looked bad.

I am not a drinker. I often get dinner with a friend who gets a glass or two of wine with her meal. We generally end up splitting the bill down the middle and she pays the whole tip which more or less makes things even. We joke that I am probably known as the asshole who doesn’t tip.

Somewhat relevant earlier thread, although I can see the tendency to want to tap dance around the subject. But in this case is not relevant, because it appears that she did indeed tip.

I write “cash” or “on table” when I do that, just to make sure there’s no misunderstanding.

Earl - No, she says she tipped. What are the odds that the “pastor” would go to the trouble of scratching out the tip added into the bill, redo the total, and then leave the money on the table. A lot slimmer than that pastor, that’s for sure.

Unless you consider “we let our waitstaff post your receipts with all personally identifying information usually on them online for everyone to see when they do something to piss them off” bad press. That’s Applebee’s justification, anyway.

Not voluntarily. Her card was apparently charged for the 18% auto gratuity added as per the notification on the menu. Surely you do not believe she left $6 on the table as she claims:dubious:
