Okay, it was on a rat. . . in one of my classes, but it was still pretty cool. First we (my group) put the little guy (well, girl) to sleep, and then we removed her kidney, and we actually managed to do this without killing her. Go us!
On a side note, they still twitch everytime you cut the skin, so it was just a little scary. We kept on thinking that she was waking up or feeling it, but she wasn’t, it was just reflex.
We will be looking at her in two weeks and seeing how living with just one kidney has affected her.
The prof said we could keep it, and all kinds of good practical jokes came to mind…It really looked like a normal kidney bean. My lab partner suggested that we head to the Round Table salad bar and see what happens. I decided that it would be better for the world at large to just throw it away
