I pit Amazon.com

I love you Amazon, but you fall short of greatness.

I paid $75 for Amazon Prime, so I get free 2-day shipping on selected items, seems to be mainly items that Amazon themselves carry, not a partner store. BUT, there’s no way to search for only those items. I know they don’t really want you to get free shipping on every item, but if I want, say, a wireless networking card and I don’t want to pay shipping, I have to look through dozens of listings to find which ones have free shipping.

PLUS, I’ve gotten quite a few items in 3 or even 4 days. 2 days is 2 days Amazon, we had a deal man. Send those suckers UPS Blue instead of Ground.
Also…WHY THE HELL do you show items that are “Currently Unavailable”? That doesn’t do me any good! Try searching for “wireless network camera”. Several items on the first page cannot be ordered.

I realize there could be value in the product info/reviews, but at least let me filter “Currently Unavailable” items out of my search and quit wasting my time!

I, too, wish their filtering system was better. I’ve always hated searching for books on certain subjects and getting children’s books and books in foreign languages as the results, with the book I’m actually searching for buried way-down on the list.

Well, you were the one that was fucking stupid enough to join Amazon Prime, weren’t you, dumbass?

If you could cultivate some fucking self-control, you’d use Super Saver Shipping, like the rest of us.

But noOOooo!

You gotta have it right now!

Not only is it proof that you are incapable of dealing with the concept of “delayed gratification”, it also encourages the dipshits in Amazon’s marketing department to come up with these chickenshit, three-card-monty-esque [del]scams[/del] schemes. In addition, it proves you’re unworthy to clutch at the hem of my garb, whilst begging for subway tokens, used cigarette butts or baseball cards, as is your usual employment, you yammering mendicant.

So shut the fuck up, you Astro-Chimp.

That’s Astro ZOMBIE, you tit!

I just don’t like paying for shipping, and I don’t like waiting X number of days (could be from 2 days to 2 weeks or more) for an item. When Amazon.com offers free 2-day shipping, I can actually do mundane day-to-day shopping there, saving me trips to the store. $75 for a year of 2-day shipping is a great deal, if you order 10 items you’ve more than paid for it.

Pharmacy mix up your meds again, Bosda?

Now that that is off my chest, I almost always choose the free shipping, although I point no fingers at those who do not.

Anyway, control-z, I’d consider contacting Amazon and letting them know of your dissatisfaction. You are paying a premium for that service and they should know if their vendors aren’t following through.

I do like the “Currently Unavailable” designation, however. I once wanted to order a router table made by Bench Dog. When I went to order it, it was flagged as “Currently Unavailable”, which gave me hope; at least I knew that it wasn’t “Discontinued” or “No Longer Available”. I think it is a helpful description, albeit frustrating.

I’ve never, i don’t think, waited more than a week for regular Amazon free shipping, and most of my orders arrive within 2-3 days.

I realize, though, that this sort of thing can depend on one’s location.

Yeah, I’ve let them know about both things (the items not arriving in 2 days more than once), but I don’t think I’ve ever received a message from a human at Amazon.com.

The “Currently Unavailable” items are useless when you want to BUY something. There should be an advanced search with a box you can check saying “Also show ‘Currently Unavailable’ items.”

But you did pay for shipping. $75 for shipping. Which could have been nothing, if you’d have stocked up on your purchases and used Super Saver. It’s not like you’re getting your packages quickly anyway. Blah, just more of the “wannitNOW” syndrome.

Maybe I am just a little pissed cuz I am convinced that people taking advantage of Amazon Prime slows down my orders. It probably doesn’t, but I like to think that.

I’m more inclined to think that Amazon slows down your orders so that you’ll buy Amazon Prime. I notice that my stuff, which used to arrive within a couple of business days with free shipping, now takes up to two weeks. I don’t care enough to pay for shipping, though. If I need it RIGHT NOW, there’s a Borders two blocks from my office.

I do get most of my orders in 2 days. And I let them know when I don’t.

I’m not sure how Prime is working out for them. I’ve read that Prime is costing them a lot, I think it was one of the things to blame for lower than expected earnings at one point. They might have to get rid of the unlimited part; right now $75 gets you unlimited 2-day shipping for a year. I’ve probably got $400 worth of 2-day shipping over the last year, and paid $75 for it. However, I’m also ordering more items, so surely they’ll take that into account.

I’ve had items with free super saver shipping show up in 3-4 days.

Bravo!

Kids these days wanting there instant gratification. I remeber when you used to enjoy the expectation of the catalogue item coming in the post in anything up to 2 months time. Anyone paying for postage from Amazon is being an idiot (except in cases where free posatage is not a possible choice). They are ever not organised enough to order things some time before they are needed, or they can’t organise themselves to buy more than $25.00 dollars of stuff at a time, or they are stupid suckers.

That’s Mister Tit, to you!

I used to like Amazon, but the Amazon shops and other stuff just clutter up the whole experience. Sometimes less is more.

Agreed. And I also hate seeing Tiger Direct on there, those bastards with their fancy glossy catalog and $8 shipping for a fucking RCA cable!

I signed up for the free three-month trial of Amazon Prime. Free shipping is nice, I guess, but the stuff still doesn’t get to me any faster. Sure, once the item is shipped, it usually takes two days to arrive, but they often take their own sweet time in actually shipping the item in the first place. Once the trial is over in a couple of months, I’m going to let it lapse and just go with the “Super Saver Shipping”.

Yes and others take 4 months. They are really slipping of late.

The shipping never takes long, but the availability of the item (ie if they have one to post to you) can take a very long time. Really the time it takes once shipping starts is fast enough that prmium shipping is daft.

I read the OP and got a stong deja vu vibe. control-z say ‘Hi’ to Athena.

To the best of my knowledge (unless there’s a site setting eluding me), without Amazon Prime there’s no way for them to ship orders with multiple items on them until everything is in stock - unless you pay freight. In other words, order 4 CDs / books, whatever and if you pre-ordered one, the entire order is held up until everything’s in stock or you pay shipping. True you could break up the orders manually based on availability - but it’s too much of a PITA.

Anyone else notice their server speed is gradually morphing into SDMB-server slugishness?

I think she has a legitimate gripe, their sales pitch does say free 2-day delivery. But Amazon sometimes sends UPS Ground that should" make it here in 2 days, but it doesn’t always in the rural area where I live. Also, Amazon doesn’t always ship it quickly.

Even worse, on the item pages right below the “Free 2-day Shipping” button, it says something like “Order in the next 3 hours 25 minutes, and you’ll have his item on Tuesday April 4th.” That sounds like a pretty airtight promise to me. But it doesn’t always work out that way due to the above mentioned problems.

No, Amazon is pretty fast for me.
