I pit dick devos

I am glad that arrogant prick lost in Michigan yesterday. he got beaten badly. This asshole spent 35 mikkion of his own money running for gov. There has not been a half hour without 2 of his commercials in so long I can not remember when. Why the fuck a billionaire wants to be governor I dont get.Unless its to scam the system from the insiide. His Devos for president site was already set up.He blamed Grandholm for the states unemployment. Yet he opened a 100 million dollar plant in Guangzhou and has a 35 million dollar plant going up in Shanghai. Lets face it ,unemployment is a national problem. States can only react. I am a business man ,trust me. eat shit and die you prick.
His AMway system has been fined 100 k twice for lying in ads about how much distributors can make. He is a pyramid scheme lying prick. But it doesn’t bother me.

gonzomax: As someone who is spelling and grammar challenged I would like to strongly suggest you make better use of **Preview ** for an OP and get a spellchecker or construct your Ops in Word first. Especially, look out for capitalization of names and spaces after periods. A spellchecker would do wonders. I use IEspell from http://www.iespell.com/. You might wish to download and try it. It works right in the edit window.

Your son might be able to help you also. LOUNE seems to have a better handle on Grammar then I do and might have some great tips.

I fart in Gaudere’s general direction

Ooh, snap!

I thought that a thread lambasting “dick devos” would be homophobic (or jockohomophobic?)

Small letters in his name were deliberate. It would ,to me, imply respect.

The pitting really should go to the Michigan Republicans, who can’t seem to find a better candidate than Devos to run for gov. WTF were they thinking, anyway?

Are we not men?

Dick us, do we not bleed?

I most sincerely hope not.

Let me get this straight. You have a guy who invested millions of his own money in the Michigan economy and still failed to buy the governorship, (so he improved your tax base while failing to reap any personal rewards as well as failing to injure your political team), and you are pitting him after the election? I could see a bit of ragging or schadenfreude, but a condemnatory pitting?

One of us is confused.

It is you. He is moving jobs to China. His family is worth billions .I fail to see how self aggrandizing is a boon to the local community.

Well, proves my point that I am grammatically challenged.

Excellent, but re-read your Op and look at the many mistakes. This is strictly constructive criticism or hopefully helpful advise. I know I have the same problems.

Otherwise I strongly agree that “dick devos” is a scumbag jerk.

Hear-Hear!

It’s about time someone started this thread. Devo 2.0 was bad enough but now we have penises singing “Jerkin’ Back and Forth”!

Fuck that!

I don’t know man… the VanAndels and Devoses poured a heck of a lot of money into revitalizing downtown Grand Rapids. They’ve done a lot for the state. While they’re still creeps for shipping jobs overseas, they aren’t anywhere near the scale of, say, GM.

The Republicans deserve a giant smack in the face for running Devos, a guy naive enough to say that Intelligent Design should be part of public school curriculum… while running for governor in a BLUE STATE! Devos already had enough baggage without jamming his foot in his mouth. I don’t blame him for running for governor, but I do blame the MI Republicans for backing him. There are some damn good people in the Republican pen (whatever happened to Bill Sederburg?) but instead of running them, they run a guy from planet Amway.

I met with Devos and worked with him years ago. (I wasn’t part of Amway or anything… it’s a long story.) He’s naive, but he’s a truly nice guy, with good ideals. If he can ever escape his sheltered upbringing, he’d make a great politician. Unfortunately, I doubt he ever will.

I agree with this. He had to get past the Amway image and he didn’t do that. It doesn’t bother me that he is rich and running for governor, I am sure he is a very good businessman and very intelligent. However he came across as inept in the debates and never learned how to address voter sincerely, even for a politician he seemed fake. I agree that another candidate would have done better, Dick DeVos brings strong reactions in Michigan and I think that many voters who are fed up with the way things are going and maybe would have voted for another republican won’t vote for DeVos. Granholm is much better at campaigning, however you feel about her, she is a great speaker.

Unemployment may be a national issue, but Michigan has its own dependence on manufacturing and auto makers that the rest of the country does not share. I fully expect a Michigan governor to address our dismal unemployment rates (the worst in the nation, I believe) and not blame national policy. Most other states are on the mend, our economy is horrible. We need drastic changes. If we can’t get invested in other industries (I see health care as a rising option) it is going to get worse before it gets better though.

Actually, in this case, it seems to be you.

My question was not why one might choose to Pit Devos. That seems like a worthwhile effort. The question is why you would wait until he had failed in his efforts while offsetting some of the money he has dragged out of the state by investing in advertising. In other words, yesterday morning, your Pitting would have made sense; this morning, it seems that a rational person would be mocking him for his failure rather than cursing him for his attempt.

::nod. Inexhaustible.

Personally, I blame Engler’s shortsightedness for Michigan’s current woes.

I’m not an Engler fan, but you do realize that this sounds a lot like the constant refrain on the Right that “Clinton did it.”?
:dubious:

Fair point. Bottom line, though, is that Engler enjoyed being governor during a rare economic boom. The fact that Michigan’s economy was outpaced by the rest of the nation was lost on both Engler and the voting bloc, who continued to reelect him. This was a time when Michigan needed to shore up their resources for the next lean period - pay down the mortgage, so to speak - but Engler only chopped social programs and public funding left and right, and paid lip service to bringing in new industry while never really having any successes. The economy still boomed ahead, fueled by the rest of the nation, so Engler patted himself on the back and pretended he was somehow the architect of the success. The boom ended, and Michigan found itself far behind the rest of the country, with no reserves. And that’s the situation Granholm was handed.

I’m not letting Granholm off - she didn’t seem to grasp the situation or take appropriate action until late into her term. Her actions since have been good, but have left room for improvement. A decent Republican candidate with some new ideas and determination to get things working could have beaten her and done better, but the best the Republicans could do was Devos? Ha.

If Engler had not been an idiot, he could have improved the economy of the state to stay apace with the nation, brought in some new industry, improved the state infrastructure *and * built up some reserves. He had a golden opportunity to really make a lasting improvement in MI’s economy and he entirely blew it. As it is, it will take the state a long time to recover from his lack of vision, and the people who will bring the state back - be it Granholm, or someone else - will probably never recieve full credit. But I personally feel it’s important to remember who put Michigan in this position in the first place.
