I pit Disney (lame rant)

If Disney put half as much imagination into their live action shows as they put into their cartoons I might actually be willing to watch them! Do you know anybody who actually likes these lame pieces of craq?
Also why isn’t Disney celebrating Mickey’s 80th birthday?

Man, it is damn hard to find a good piece of craq these days.

For some reason I find the combination of your interest in Mickey Mouse with your screenname oddly disturbing…

Enchanted was a good fun movie. The Pirate movies did well and I really enjoyed the first one. Both Narnia movies were well done as was National Treasure, the second one not so much, but not terrible. Sky High was another funny Disney movie.

So which live action Disney movies were you complaining about?

Jim

I think it’s the TV channel he’s talking about. And it’s true. The Disney channel’s live shows are really bad, but somehow appeal to kids. We’re not talking like Sesame STreet, where adults (generally with children) can laugh and sing along and play with their kids.

Oh, that makes more sense. What are their live action shows? My kids rarely watch Disney at all.

No I think he is talking about the live action shows at the theme parks.

Or maybe it’s ‘Finding Nemo on Ice’ he has a problem with.

Their site has a list of shows, some of which I recognize as live action:
As the Bell Rings
That’s So Raven
Suite Life of Zack and Cody
Hannah Montana
Cory in the House
Jonas Brothers: Living the Dream
Life With Derek
Wizards of Waverly Place
Phil of the Future

Out of all of these, I’ve only caught snippets of a couple of them; suffice to say, the acting is terrible, the lines these kids are given are awful, and the plot premises are pretty bad, even for a kid’s show. It seems like all of them are ripoffs of one thing or another (“As the Bell Rings” looks like a middle school version of “Saved by the Bell”), but this is fairly typical of movies and television these days.

I don’t have cable, so I can’t really comment on the quality of programming on the Disney channel these days; I can, however, comment on how disappointed I am in all the book spin-offs that there are out there for these shows. It seems like a lot of them are just plot synopses of past shows, which is about as great a literary achievement as a novelization of a movie.

Yes, the sitcoms on Disney are godawful. Sometimes I’ll have Disney Channel on in the afternoon to catch The Replacements or Phineas and Ferb with my five year old, and then one of these bombs will come on.

As the Bell Rings is so painful I want to scratch my eyes out. Even though it only lasts five minutes, the hurt lingers. Check it out if you dare.

As for The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, Dan Savage (the gay sex advice columnist) did a piece on how shocking the show is and worrying that is was corrupting his son.

Don’t get me started on Disney books. The prose is so tortured and convoluted they are next to impossible to read aloud, and kids lose interest quickly. Give me a Sesame Street book any day. Even Nickelodeon books are better.

I should have specified the live action TV shows, since I liked most of the recent Disney movies too.

I prefer Daisy. At least she’s got breasts. BREASTS!!!???

Sorry, that was my bad. You did say “live action shows”, there was enough for me to interpret what you meant and I missed it.

Perhaps they don’t want to remind everybody that he should have been in the public domain for 5 years now if not for the Copyright Term Extension Act (CTEA) of 1998, aka the Mickey Mouse Protection Act, aka Corporate Welfare Act #3498475.
