If Scooby Doo can be made into a live-action movie then I suppose nothing is sacred. Which other cartoons do you feel would be done very poorly as live action movies? I hope to never see Peanuts done as a live-action movie. I think the late Mr. Schulz would be turning over in his grave if it were attempted. I can’t see that a Family Circus movie could ever be done, either.
So, which animated cartoons or comic strips do you feel are too sacred to ever get the green light for live action?
So I’ll say the Smurfs. I can totally see them doing it. Making the film dark and moody, getting somebody like Christopher Walken to play Gargamel. And they wouldn’t even have to CGI the Smurfs. Just change the skin color. shudder I hope not.
Well, The Simpsons is an obvious choice. It would be a disaster in live action, in part because they just wouldn’t be able to find actors for all the characters.
I don’t know, Tim Burton might be able to pull it off. The architexture in Calvin’s house seems to lend itself to his artistic style. To say nothing of the fantasy sequences. 'Don’t know WHO you could get for live-action actors, though.

I think Animerica Magazine announced that Dragon Ball Z is being developed as a live action movie.
On an anime meet 2 years ago, I saw a music video of a proposed Sailor Moon live action show, think “Sabrina the teenage witch” mixed with the “Power Rangers”!
The animated show that should never be made into a movie IMO is Clutch Cargo!
Really? While certainly if they were to try and do it like the ol HB show then yes it would suck. But if they did it more in the vein of “Coast to Coast” or his other cartoon show from several years back I think it might work. Watching that chubby guy prance around in the costume made me so jealous, I wanted it!
Wait, wait. Tad might work. Moltar might work. Zorak wouldn’t it. Yup, don’t do it!
Ummm…there already is a Dragonball movie. It’s very loosely based, though. For example, Goku is named “Monkey Boy” and Master Roshi is named “Turtle Man,” and some other pretty bad character names. But, basic plot: Evil guy wants all seven dragon balls (here, they’re giant pearls) to become immortal and evil, so Monkey Boy, Turtle Man, and a bunch of others fight him off. Yay!
Cathy would suck. No one reads it, anyway, why bother making it into a movie?
Garfield* would be horrific as a live action film. Just look what they did to Scooby Doo.
The Snorks would suck. Yugi Oh, and, well, virtually any WB cartoon. Transformers would be bad because everything would be CG, and that just makes things look like crap. And I honestly doubt GI-JOE could be pulled off well, either.
I think a better thread here would be “What cartoons would make GOOD movies” because I can’t really think of any.
Ever see that SNL skit? In the same vein as that Leprechauns TV movie they did a Smurfs TV movie ad. People dressed like Smurfs with died blue skins doing dramatic scenes, saying Smurf every few words. Starring their guest of the week… Garth Brooks. It was funny. Really!
