I pit DrDeth

Are you sure? Isn’t he an ex-cop doing security work now? At least that’s what I remember him saying. Ok, given all the dishonesty he exhibits in debate, we don’t have to believe him, but at least he said so.

No, he used to be a “federal agent” which he mentions as if to imply that he was at the X-Files or something, but he was just some random guy who worked for the IRS for a while.

Me too. Though I enjoyed Mr. Robot because even though it wasn’t 100% accurate, it was so much more accurate than just about anything else I’ve ever seen that it was less of a distraction than usual.

The pilot episode featured a security hacking incident and the response to it, and I’ve actually been through that in real life (I was the guy who recognized what was happening in real time and scrambled to shut down the network to stop it). It was so close to what I actually went through that the first time I watched it, I was really upset because I relived some of the trauma.

Most shows though are so bad that I want to just scream at someone.

But Survivor doesn’t portray itself as a mock survival situation. It’s a reality TV show based primarily on popularity contests. Comparing it to a life-or-death survival situation is a bit of a stretch. Even for him.

I think ‘his thing’ is trying to prove he’s a know-it-all. And he will. not. back. down even when shown evidence to the contrary.

:joy: I never had seen that especially ridiculous example. Where is it from?

NCIS, which is in its 22nd season and is one of the most watched scripted shows in American television history.

FFS.

Of course I heard about the show, but never had the intention to even watch one minute of it.

You’re not missing out.

My father-in-law loves the show, so I’ve caught enough to know that it isn’t for me.

(My point wasn’t that you should know what the show is, my point is how popular the show is despite how ridiculous it can get.)

No worries, I understood that.

But of course DrD insists on bringing up every single instance of a show having inaccuracies in the TV series thread. EVERY SINGLE TIME. You’d think he’s learn not to watch these any more.

I’m not so sure that his “federal agent” work wasn’t being an after-hours security guard outside an IRS office in an office park somewhere.

Hell, I know a guy who apparently is incapable of suspending disbelief, thus has a difficult time enjoying anything. And tends to ruin others’ enjoyment if he happens to be around.

I beg to differ. The original UK version is disturbingly like offices in which I have worked

OT, that is so funny I can’t really get into the American version.

And now he wants to teach me, a born German who has lived his whole life here, about German and Austrian accents and dialects in the “Who decides “proper” pronunciation” thread with incorrect information. What a doofus.

Didn’t a troll start that thread? How is it still going?

Yes, but with 178 posts, it apparently didn’t get cornfielded – that seems to mostly be the fate of threads which are started by obvious trolls (and individual posts by said trolls) who get slapped down quickly by the mods. And, I might guess that, in this case, the mods may have felt it was a worthwhile discussion otherwise, and worth leaving be.

The dude in question had been around for several weeks, and I’m going to guess it wasn’t until that thread where he revealed his true trollish self.

I had him pegged by thread #2 (day 3). It only took me that long to ID him as a troll because I try to stay out of P&E (where it dropped its first turd).

This is his standard modus operandi. He never hesitates to argue with people much more knowledgeable than he is. He denies statistics. He disputes established facts.

To make things even more entertaining, his lack of comprehension is legendary. He just responded to me in that same thread with a post that shows he completely missed my point. Exapno_Mapcase understood exactly what I was saying, even if he didn’t fully agree with it. DrDeth was his usual clueless self. I’m not going to bother responding because I know how arguments with him always go.

Normally What_Exit tends to speak to such actions in Pit threads, but he’s travelling without consistent access, so I’ll gingerly step into his massive boots. It was motioned that in this particular case the threads started by the troll were largely healthy and active, so they were allowed to stand though several were locked. The closing of such is a common complaint, and this is not a change in procedure, just an exception at the moment.

Otherwise, let’s not talk about the departed as per SOP.

That’s the spirit! Don’t engage and pretty soon DrDeth becomes just another Dr. Who? How many are we up to these days, anyway, eleven? Twelve?

Higher. The current Doctor is the 15th (David Tennant was Doctor twice) though a 16th is coming soon.
