I pit DrDeth

Thanks.

Wow.

I knew he was on the downward spiral part of his pattern, but I didn’t think it would be such a spectacular crash-and-burn. I do hope it’s permanent, this wouldn’t be his first suspension.

That would be the one. I’d apologize for not participating in (re)debunking his batshit insanity on that topic, but he was peddling his other lunatic theories about the Pacific Theater in WWII at the same time, and I decided that more than one concurrent thread of his batshit insanity wasn’t worth the cost to my mental health.

A one-day suspension? Let me guess. The moderators have a quorum with free time already.

A one day is more of a cool down than an official suspension. It is also what an individual Mod can do on their own.

I did bump this up to the modloop though as we need to discuss what to do.

DD, who is actually NAD (Not A Doctor), has promoted the delusion that France had major responsibility for starting WWI on multiple occasions.

It’s part of his tendency to engage in historical revisionism, evidently based on reading a couple (or more likely, just one) fringe author’s work and deciding that it overturns a widely accepted body of evidence.

And that France was barely invaded during that war.

I always knew that when DD eventually got banned it would be for something spectacularly stupid.

I felt the same way too; that France took yet another Balkans war and made it a world war. But considering that means I agree with DrDumbass I have changed my mind because obviously I’m wrong.

Sometimes the universe aligns. For example, today’s XKCD and this thread.

“EXTREME PETTINESS AND UNWILLINGNESS TO LET ANYTHING GO.”

I for one don’t think he deserves to have been considered as the one hijacking the Aussie Biden/Trump thread. That thread was already very broad, and others had brought up Stewart and his comments on Biden.

Heck, I was about to respond to a post replying to me about that topic until I saw the mod note for DrDeth. I do think the OP brought up the idea of the too old/too senile argument for Biden, and thus discussing the consequences of people who are pushing that narrative makes sense. Sure, it could become a hijack, but it’s the natural kind that makes sense and might need a gentle reminder, not the kind that fits with a pattern of derailing threads.

Maybe if he had confined his comments to that thread but he did not.

The rules on this site are intentionally fuzzy to encourage posters to stay well away from crossing the line. When a poster, who has a record of being a good participant, is near the fuzzy line, the moderators will appropriately take that into account. A poster, who consistently tests where the lines are and often crosses them, is not going to get the benefit of a doubt when they’re in the fuzzy borderline.

Bottom line: this site doesn’t need posters who are often testing the boundaries. Don’t be a jerk. We want posters who are actively avoiding crossing the line.

Yes. I was just specifically talking about that thread.

True but the issue wasn’t that thread per se. It was spamming the same thing to three different threads after catching two suspensions for similar behavior in the recent past.

I know. I’m disagreeing with the “three different threads” part. I’m saying that, IMHO, one of those examples doesn’t really count. I’m not saying anything about the other two examples. If they (plus his past history) are still enough to show the pattern, then that’s a valid assessment.

I do share people’s frustrations with the guy and his posting habits.

Yes, by definition, it’s the other two that make it spamming.

This is a little silly, it was all three posts taken together that triggered the suspension and review. The first I saw was the Daily Show hijack and if that was the only one, it would have just been a warning.

His 30 day suspension had 3 major points to avoid and with those 3 posts he violated all 3. Nitpicking whether one of them was not a hijack is not really the point in this case.

Doesn’t mean anything re: the rules of this board … but DrDeth was right to be furious with Jon Stewart. I understand that no one here is disputing this per se.

I have no opinion on the Stuart broadcast but if someone is topic banned, for example, they can’t discuss that topic. Correctness is irrelevant.
