The thing that really put DD on my radar is that he’s a fanatical “gun rights” defender who claims the US has no problem at all with gun violence. It only appears to have a problem when you “cherry-pick” comparisons with countries like Australia, Canada, or the UK. Or, indeed, “cherry-pick” comparisons with any advanced industrialized country in the world.
But the the US is absolutely peachy-keen A-OK when properly compared with countries like El Salvador, Honduras, and Eswatini. .
Speaking as a lazy poster and lousy speller, i doubt it. I often use a lower case “i” because that’s how my phone swypes it, and most of the time i can’t be arsed to fix it. It annoys me a little, truth be told. Just not enough to actually edit all my posts to fix it. Same with some other typographical oddities in my posts.
So, making the typical assumption that everyone in the world is just like me until proven otherwise, I’m guessing that either he is just bad at spelling or he has an issue similar to mine.
I’d like to respectfully request that folks don’t poke him about irrelevant stuff like that.
He intentionally spells certain words in a quirky way. It doesn’t bother me at all but it annoys the hell out of a lot of people. At one point when he was in contrition mode he said that he’s stop and I thought he had at least for a while.
If it were just that he occasionally misspelled a word because he either thought he was correct, or was too lazy to check, I’d agree with you. But he deliberately writes things incorrectly, and if memory serves he has defended his idiosyncrasies with eye-rolling justifications.
I hope this example is accurate, because I am relying on a memory that is probably 5 or more years old (maybe other posters can chime in with “yes, I remember that too” or “no, it didn’t happen that way” – I’m happy to be corrected). Anyway, one of his affections was to never use “an.” So he would write “I ate a apple and then visited a aunt.” Why? Because it’s “more efficient.” Or something.
In any case, no native English speaker capable of using a computer and discussing, however fallaciously, aspects of world history, would be such a “lazy poster” and “lousy speller” as to repeatedly omit the “n” from “an.” It is absolutely deliberate and designed to annoy.
There are other examples, but I can’t remember them well enough to describe them, and in any case I could probably find a million better uses for my time.
By his own admission, he chooses to write that way intentionally. Supposedly he thinks it’s superior to regular grammar and it should be how everyone does it, but he knows it irritates the crap out of everyone else. He swore once to knock it off (in an ATMB thread if I’m remembering correctly) and for a long time he did, but he has started to do it again. It is not at all unintentional or done because he has problems typing, it’s a deliberate affectation.
Nope, this is an absolute lie. And you know it. We have posted back and forth in many threads.
I have said time and again, I am in favor of moderate gun control laws. I really like the Gun laws that Biden pushed through Congress a while ago for example. I don’t like Gun bans as they violate the Bill of Rights- which I support- all of them. You only posted this lie as you thought I wouldn’t come here and call you out for the cowardly liar you are.
And while I am here-
Nope, I never posted any spoilers in any GoT threads. I did complain- often and loudly that the OP got special rules that we have never, ever given any other OP- that the books not be mentioned. Not spoilers from the books, no mention that the books even exist. I will admit that I complained too much about that special rule (which is why I was banned), but I never did any spoilers- in fact i hardly ever posted in those threads.
No, I just think that some of our standard spelling are stupid. Many decades ago there was a push for simplified spelling, and America did accept several- we spell it “color” not “colour”. “Thru” is a varient spelling. I am sorry if that annoys you, I will cut down on it, but you have to admit that “through” adds an unnecessary three letters. It is too bad all those spelling corrections did not take hold.
Of course you are. You hate the way i call you out on your anarcho -communism. “Property is theft” is complete communist bullshit.
I met Gygax once- at a Con. I don’t think I am special in doing that- thousands and thousands of us Old School D&D fans have done the same.
Read The Sleepwalkers- I myself thought Germany started if after reading the Guns of August. She was lied to- France doctored the documents- France and Russia mobilized and declared first- just by a day, sure. Mind you- the Kaiser giving AH “carte blanche” was one of the causes of WW1, so they are also to blame.
But you are right- I am not a Real Doctor, I have never claimed to be.
The problem with you, Dude- is that you HATE being proven wrong. I have done so- with cites. Yep, I make mistakes (like when I mixed up the two USS Yorktown carrier specs. ). And no one likes admitting they are wrong. I don’t either. But you- you are just a little cowardly shitweasel. When I prove you wrong with a cite, okay, I dont expect you to admit it. Most people would counter with another cite- but you hate cites and prefer your own biased opinions. So instead- when I prove you wrong with a cite you could not counter, you run here and while about it like the cowardly little shitweasel you are. Remember when you called the Imperial Japanese tanks “paper mache” ? And I pointed out that the Russian tanks at the time had the same crappy armor and guns? the Russian liked crappy worthless thin armored light tanks and they made tens of thousands of them, until they made the very decent T34- which was not used in the Russo-Japanese conflict- as they hadn’t been built yet-
In 1939, the most numerous Soviet tank models were the T-26infantry tank and the BT series of fast tanks. The T-26 was slow-moving, designed to keep pace with infantry on the ground. The BT tanks were cavalry tanks: fast-moving and light, designed for manoeuver warfare… During the Battle of Lake Khasan in July 1938 and the Battles of Khalkhin Gol in 1939, an undeclared border war with Japan on the frontier with occupied Manchuria, the Soviets deployed numerous tanks against the Imperial Japanese Army (IJA). Although the IJA Type 95 Ha-Go light tanks had diesel engines,[17][page needed] the Red Army’s T-26 and BT tanks used petrol engines which, while common in tank designs of the time, often burst into flames when hit by IJA tank-killer teams[18] using Molotov cocktails. Poor-quality welds in the Soviet armour plates left small gaps between them, and flaming petrol from the Molotov cocktails easily seeped into the fighting and engine compartment; portions of the armour plating that had been assembled with rivets also proved to be vulnerable.[19] The Soviet tanks were also easily destroyed by the Japanese Type 95 tank’s 37 mm gunfire, despite the low velocity of that gun,[20] or “at any other slightest provocation”.[21] The use of riveted armor(or is that 'armour") led to a problem whereby the impact of enemy shells, even if they failed to disable the tank or kill the crew on their own, would cause the rivets to break off and become projectiles inside the tank.
You also used those tens of thousands of worthless deathtrap early Soviet tanks as “proof” that the Soviets were advanced in their technology. Mind you- the T34 was a damn good tank, but only one of the three best mass produced tanks of WW2- which I proved by a cite.
Which cites you ignored- well kinda, because you came here into the Pit and started your cowardly shitweasel lies. That is how you react to being proven wrong by cites. Okay, I don’t always admit when I am wrong, but I, at least sometimes do. I might be an asshole at times, I can’t deny that, but I am not a coward- like you are. Shitweasel.
Thank you. Or is that “Thank yu”?
But I will try to be better on that anyway- but I can’t promise i won’t slip up.
I completely believe that he does it because he thinks it’s better. And i completely believe that he knows it annoys some people. But doing it would then be not so much “bad spelling” as “bad habit”.
I really don’t think he does that specifically to annoy y’all.
So you think that when DD writes “enuf” instead of “enough”, he’s just bad at spelling? I disagree. It’s a game with him, intended to provoke those that he knows it annoys. Just like persistently failing to use “an” instead of “a” for the indefinite article, as in “a apple”. It’s a hobby with him.
It’s very relevant when he’s the one poking everyone else. He knows better. He’s been told a million times.
Your lunatic definition of “moderate gun laws” would be – by design – completely ineffectual and accomplish absolutely nothing. You haven’t the vaguest fucking clue about how gun laws work in civilized countries (by which I mean NOT El Salvador, Honduras, and Eswatini). You don’t want to know how civilized countries deal with guns. You apparently know better, and in your delusional mind you have it all figured out.
QFT. I once linked to a prior post of mine from years ago in which I’d provided a cite for something in one of those endlessly rehashed topics he likes to be wrong about. He spent the rest of the thread making the absurd claim that I was citing myself ala “my post is my cite”. Anyone with above room temperature IQ could clearly see I was linking to a prior post from a prior thread where the cite I was using was linked, and I’m willing to concede that DrDeez is not clinically retarded and does in fact possess an IQ above 70. The only reason to continue doing it was to be a troll and a malevolent asshole.
Hahahahaha. Pull the other one. Everyone who has read anything you’ve ever written about the military, history, or military history knows exactly how full of shit you are. Everyone who has looked at one of your cites knows you’re neck in neck with SamStone for your own posts contradicting what you think they say. And I don’t have to repeatedly have spittle flying out of my mouth onto my keyboard like a rabid dog using the word ‘shitweasel’ to prove it.
I wouldn’t quite go that far. In isolation, I agree they are no big deal. And, personally, IDGAF about any of it.
But I do get why it creates additional irritation for those who are already very irritated with him. I get why they might interpret it as intentional tweaking.
@DrDeth: This may sound stupid, but I’m happy you actually joined here. I honestly think you’d do well to read the things that irritate people, and try to work on at least some of it. I’m not saying to be a different person, but at least know what people get irritated about.
And, honesty, I think you deserve to defend yourself a bit. Just don’t let any animosity spill over into other forums.
I honestly think the main problem you have is a loss of control at times, when you get really emotional. Maybe if you could just actually Pit the things that are angering you, you wouldn’t screw it up. Like, what if you had just Pitted Jon Stewart?
To those of y’all who are mentioning some of his recent activity, guess what. He’s set his profile to private so it’s no longer possible to click on the avatar and get just all his posts. That’s a step in the right direction, meaning it’s taking him further off the radar.
