I pit fuckface mother fuckers who don't believe that humans are responsible for climate change

This is the Dope, though. We expect posters to be able to recognize that they’re being illogical even while they’re hopping mad and/or drunk.

What BigT said: You’re not tired of it; you participate in it because you yourself get something out of it. I don’t know what that is. Maybe the satisfaction of putting someone down whom you regard as inferior. Maybe it’s a little extra human attention during the holidays. Who knows? Who cares? But you can’t say you’re tired of it - you’re clearly not.

But that’s not the purpose of the dope, and I’m not being illogical.

How is ranting about DirecTV more logical and more appropriate in the Pit than ranting about an existential crisis to humanity? I think a lot of you fail to see your own hypocrisy – and your shortsightedness.

But that’s okay, I’m here to point it out to you. And I’ll do it every time.

I have been right in predicting the slow, steady collapse of American democracy, which is happening right now. Fortunately, I’ve wiped the smug off your fucking faces to the point where few people start threads about me in which they call me a chicken little - those days are gone now.

As for embarrassing “your side,” what the ever living fuck is that supposed to mean? I don’t even know what your side is, Guin. Maybe you’re being too self-conscious. Stop worrying about imaginary associations you have with people you’ve never met. You didn’t have to respond, but you did, didn’t you? What does that tell you?

Except the climate change deniers do it in a spirit of “fuck you.” Look at those rolling coal assholes.

This is complete bollocks. Why does the fact that a trait that is not exhibited all the time, or cannot be conjured on demand, imply that it is any less a part of a person’s “true” nature, or that it’s not attributable to genetics or upbringing? It’s rather easy to think of counterexamples - stress triggering adrenaline-mediated behavioral responses, for example. It’s surely to be expected that human behavior will vary according to circumstances, just like all other living creatures.

Perhaps Zen philosophy has some interesting ideas, but they seem to be accompanied by a lot of pseudo-profound deepities. And a quality it shares with all religions is that any suggestion that we should examine its claims critically is seen as a failing rather than a virtue.

Slacktivism at its finest.

In the second scroll of Wen the Eternally Surprised a story is written concerning one day when the apprentice Clodpool, in a rebellious mood, approached Wen and spake thusly: Master, what is the difference between a humanistic, monastic system of belief in which wisdom is sought by means of an apparently nonsensical system of questions and answers, and a lot of mystic gibberish made up on the spur of the moment?"

Wen considered this for some time, and at last said: “A fish!”

And Clodpool went away, satisfied.

I’m a libertarian-conservative, but I’m also pro-science. It frustrates me to no end when my fellow conservatives deny climate change. No amount of reason will convince them they’re wrong. Ask them enough questions, and you’ll eventually discover they believe all climatologists are engaged in a worldwide conspiracy.

Do NOT hate these smug but stupid fuckface mother fuckers gullible enough to fall for lies from the like of Donald Trump. God must love these fuckface imbeciles — He made so many of them. (And gave them the right to vote.)

I reserve my serious hatred for the mother-fucking liars who KNOW science is real, but vomit and defecate mistruths out of greed to confuse the many millions of American imbeciles, and thereby help get evil-doers like Trump elected.

For example consider this billboard erected by Heartland.Org. Do you doubt that anyone smart enough to commission such a billboard knows that science is real? It’s the manipulators like that who need Eternal Damnation.

Nieces and Nephews? What? Can’t get laid yourself? I think that’s the real issue here.

Good one.

But, I kinda saw that one coming, TBH.

Ste up yer game, catfish.

I really think the actual problem isn’t those who deny climate change science, it’s those who know perfectly well it’s real but who, for their own enrichment, promulgate the lie that it’s not real. While the planet burns they roll around on their stacks of cash, as though money isn’t flammable. Anyway, I reserve my ire for those fucks because they’re the problem, not Joe Dork and his lifted pickup. I mean, who sold him that pickup? Who bought the congresscritters to keep CAFE standards from being raised? Who buys the rollback of environmental regulations so they can keep ripping the tops off mountains and creating toxic sludge lakes to mine coal to burn? Who props up the CAFO meat industry? Sure, we regular folks buy the meat and drive the cars and flick the electric switches in our houses but I don’t think it can be denied that any one of us bears WAY less culpability than the ones setting up the systems we’re forced to use because there’s no viable alternative. Climate change deniers would have about as much sway in the world as flat earthers if the oligarchs didn’t find the lies useful and enriching to themselves.

In point of fact, I posted to try to explain to you why you are getting so much blow back on these threads. I wasn’t trying to prod at you. On the other hand, it’s not my job to enable your binge drinking by placating you when you get soused and rant at all of us. I’d say you’re the one looking for some human contact by acting like Drunk Uncle at the holidays. Have fun with that.

You’re an idiot. Grow up.

Oh, Merry Christmas.

I was happier when I was blissfully ignorant on all of this. I can understand the outrage. Easy to find yourself in a dark place the more one learns of what we are doing to this planet, and how and who is getting us there faster. We are a gluttonous wasteful species, future generations are truly fucked.

The Koch brothers have 156 signed members of Congress that have been bought off (vast majority Republican), and is why we are not going to get anything done about climate change in our country when there is that kind of money flowing into climate deniers political campaigns. Ted Cruz, Mark Rubio, those are some of the names that sold their souls to the Koch brothers.

Unlike Congress, at least we have a president…uh, never mind.

Dark Money

It isn’t, and I never said it was. My point was just that self-righteous fulminating about existential crises on the internet isn’t any more use in actually addressing said crises than ranting about DirecTV, or for that matter internet shopping.

And we tend to expect Dopers to be logical enough to recognize that, even when they’re angry. Sometimes, of course, our expectations go unfulfilled.

And it will continue to be obvious that you’re doing it for the sake of your own self-congratulatory feeling of smug superiority, not because it’s actually of any use in addressing a real problem.

I’d be more intelligent than you if I were comatose.

Happy New Year.

It’s the Pit – nothing that is written here is of any use in addressing a real problem. It’s catharsis.

You can shut the fuck up now.

You don’t have to placate me. You don’t even have to respond, but you did…because you were trying to prod.
