I Pit Gene Marks.

There is hope, poor black youth! Just keep reading Forbes, as you are wont to do, and you will find the answers. What a jackhole.

“I know a few school teachers and they tell me that many inner city parents usually have or can afford cheap computers and internet service nowadays.” That’s some serious research right there.

Good intentions but obviously a bit clueless. Still, I do agree with this part:

Yes, there are opportunities out there, but the vast majority of kids (rich or poor) are not going to seek them out on their own. Kids need help and support from savvy adults who know how to play the game in order to succeed. Kids need someone who can push the kid along in getting to that goal.
I grew up in a blue collar family with parents who had worked their way up from being poor. I have ended up being fairly successful in the professional world, thanks to having parents who taught me to be ambitious, who emphasized the importance of doing well in school, and worked hard to support me in any way they could.
Still, because my parents never went to college themselves, I know that we were ignorant of opportunities and resources that kids from white collar college-educated families knew about. I think I could have potentially had an easier and even more successful path in life if my family had been informed about those things.
I believe my own kids will probably have an easier road to success because of what I’ve learned about playing the game.

I do think that there are plenty of poor black kids who are capable of success but are lacking that key ingredient of an adult in their life who knows how to play the game and can push the kid to achieve to their full potential.
