I pit General Casey's political correctness

It has been widely reported that Hasan wanted out of the Army, even offering to pay back his med school tuition if that would allow him to resign. That doesn’t strike me as someone who considered himself at war, at least not until fairly recently.

Are Muslim clinical psychologists known for their occasional shooting sprees?

Jon Carroll is pretty fucking awesome.

“The world is not out to get you, except in the sense that the world is out to get everybody.”

There it is, first on your list: religious mania. I knew you’d come around eventually.

Religious mania is a symptom, not a cause. Just like when Christians go bugfuck and blow up abortion clinics.

Has it been determined whether this was done with malice aforethought or he just snapped? 'Cause if it’s the latter, I don’t think it really parallels abortion clinic bombings, which involve planning and so on.

This part…

“I believe it would be an even greater tragedy if our diversity becomes a casualty here”

Why do I think that 13 soldier’s lives are more important than “diversity”??

You’re kidding right?

Thanks for the link. I read it and a few others and I’m still not seeing it. Unless I’m misinterpreting this or missing something, he gave a power point presentation that included some Qur’anic verses.

If I gave a power point presentation on Deuteronomy, I hope nobody would interpret that as my saying that disobedient sons should be put to death.

I don’t know - maybe because you are confusing “diversity,” the scare-quote buzzword, with diversity the concept?

This may go right over your head, but the military is not some perfect meritocracy. Basically, without a lot of civilian intervention going back to President Truman and before, our military would basically be a white male Anglo-Scots-Irish Protestant institution, with those viewpoints, those values, and those people in high positions.

Now maybe you’re all, “Fine, those principles made this country and kept it free for a long time.” Well, a) not anymore, and b) talking about or even quietly implying American values are white-male-Anglo-etc. is talking in code, and has no place in public debate.

What about the part that says “Speculation could potentially heighten backlash against some of our Muslim soldiers and what happened at Fort Hood was a tragedy.” Is that bullshit as well? What about the bit where he said “It’s not just about Muslims, we have a very diverse army, we have very diverse society and that gives us all strength.”

If you think those parts are bullshit too, that’s ok, but I still don’t understand why.

If you do NOT think those parts are bullshit, do you not think they modify the bit that pisses you off?

I think it’s obvious the general is talking about something much broader; do you not see that?

So because they aren’t this one is crazy?

Using that logic, anyone who kills anyone is crazy, and is of course, not really reponsible for anything. Especially if they’re a victim.

It doesn’t fit into his belief system? So you’re the guy who can’t be troubled to read anything about this racist rabble rousing, and now you’re an expert on his belief system?

If you explicitly said they should be put to death, then no, I don’t think it would be unfair to think you held those views.

Given the context that he was presenting this in a totally inapproriate (public health?) forum and began a screaming match at people stating that they should be put to death…yeah, I know, very racist of people to overreact.

Well, tautologically speaking, all crazy beliefs fit into the belief systems of the specific crazy peopl who hold them. This guys actions are not compatible with the doctrines of Islam, though, so Islam can be ruled out as a cause.

How so? Doesn’t it say to cut the heads off of non-believers?

Most don’t take that literally but is it a sign of insanity for those who do?

No.

I didn’t read anything about a screaming match. You’d think a thing like that would have led to disciplinary action.

Cite?

The stupid is strong in you.

The comments the General made were probably accurate. There will be a significant impact on diversity in the military due to the shootings. That doesn’t diminish the deaths of those soldiers.
don’t PM me bro

The time to worry about “diversity” is not when the bodies are still cooling.

It might have an effect on “diversity”, so what, why is that even a goal.

They’re trying to prevent the mythical “anti-Muslim backlash”. IF they spent more time worrying about fanatics like this instead of promoting his because he was “diverse”, I think it would be a good idea.

From what I read, he didn’t just “present the Koran” he stated that non-Muslims go to hell where they get boiling oil poured down their throats. This was his presentation for “community health”.

Interesting take on community health.

I thought I read this to a lot of “heated talk” but maybe that was something else.

I can’t dig it up now, I give up. He was a nice muslim suffering from ptsd, except he’d never been to war. It was “secondary” ptsd, all bush’s fault.
