I have a Joann’s Fabrics by me, so I think that will be my go-to craft store. Hopefully they aren’t as ignorant as HL.
Actually, they might be. They might have just enough brains not to sue the government over it or speak out in public about it.
That’s what gets me about all of this stuff - how can anybody who is trying to make a profit take a stand that is bound to turn off some percentage of their customer base? Do they think that Evangelicals are going to run out and buy the supplies for 2 “Madison’s Third Birthday Party” scrapbooks to make up for the birth-control users they alienate?
I did a search for “boycott Joann’s fabrics” to see if anybody is upset over anything, and other than refusing to carry a particular issue of a quilting magazine one time, there doesn’t seem to be anything too stupid out there.
But first you have to find a public square.
Yes, they can.
Religious belief is not a magic talisman against legal requirements and protections.
I also like to point out that if you’re anti-abortion, you should be strongly pro-contraception. One follows the other. Preventing unwanted pregnancies in the first place prevents ending unwanted pregnancies.
Food court at the local mall.
Probably the closest thing anymore.
You realize, of course, that they don’t see it that way. When a sperm first penetrates the egg plasma membrane and reaches the egg cytoplasm, that’s when God comes down and installs the soul, turning it into a human being.
Never mind that implantation won’t actually occur for another week, that there is a HUMAN BEING, and anything that is done with the intention of preventing implantation is EXACTLY THE SAME AS WAITING FOR THE BABY TO BE BORN, BATHING IT, WRAPPING IT UP IN SWADDLING CLOTHES, NAMING IT FEEDING IT, TEACHING IT TO RECOGNIZE ITS MOMMY AND DADDY, THEN ONE NIGHT TEARING IT OUT OF A SOUND SLEEP, PLUNGING IT INTO A POT OF BOILING ACID, THEN FLAYING IT ALIVE, AND TOSSING IT, STILL SCREAMING, INTO AN INFERNO!
And laughing about it later over beer and wings in a strip bar.
EXACTLY THE SAME!
Boy, I still remember that weekend!
Aww, thanks for the info.
kaylasdad99’s bachelor party was the best ever.
Christ on a stick, I love the SD. It has irritated me for years that HL has a sign (at least in my town) on the door that states, “Closed Sundays for family and worship.” Really? Had to go tell everyone how very very religious you are? Can’t just say, “Closed Sundays”?
But I swore them off completely when I first heard this story, a few weeks back. I have other choices regarding where to spend my money.
Warning: total hijacks ahead!
I see them in the plant dept. of big-box stores quite often.
I really REALLY want to know what was so controversial about that one issue!
It was the special “abortions for some, tiny quilts for others” issue.
If only there had been some guy in history who was meaningful to these folks, but talked about providing for the less fortunate among us— especially focusing on health care. If only, right?
Oh, I knew I was forgetting something.
Apparently, the issue had an article about controversial art quilts. (Really!) Here’s a blog post I found with pictures. Ironically, apparently Joann’s decided not to carry the magazine because they were afraid people would complain. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. Personally, I don’t find them all that shocking.
You’re in luck, Hobby Lobby carries those!
You know, I had never really considered quilts “art” but some of the stuff on that link is actually really cool. Huh. Now I’m confused.
No, because sex is a sacred act between a man and a wife meant to produce babby. “Unwanted pregnancy”? Does not compute. Both abortions AND contraception go against His Will.
Not even if he’s the athiest atheist? durp. Nice false equivalence too, by the way. There is no comparison between advocating against civil/reproductive rights and choosing what merchandise to stock. Hobby Lobby is trying to prevent their employees from accessing birth control, as well as actively funding at least one homophobic organization that is working to suppress LGBT rights. The Greens are batshit terrible examples of humanity, and Hobby Lobby is just another bastion of the religious right.
Look. If you really want to buy yarn there and don’t give a shit whether they oppress LGBT rights or a woman’s right to control her uterus, then at least fucking own it.
There is no requirement that one has to be Christian to work at Hobby Lobby, nor is contraception inherently against Christian principles. Also, his objection has nothing to do with any action of the employees. It is only about whether he, as the owner of the company, should be required to pay for, essentially, abortifacient drugs. Now, he might be factually wrong in his understanding of the action of the drug itself, but none of that has anything to do with anything you tried to make it say.
