I Pit HOBBY LOBBY

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Cry me a river. And my taxes that went toward a war I didn’t agree with. Where’s my lawsuit?

He needs to get over it and obey the law as all the other for-profit yarn stores do.

He is factually wrong in his understanding of the drug, and thus his entire argument is moot. Yes, his reaction would be understandable if the morning-after pill was actually an abortifactant, but it isn’t. This information has been widely available for at least a decade.

If I believe my mail carrier is actually a lizard man from the planet Krygon, it wouldn’t be illogical for me to attack him every time he stopped by with a handful of bills and catalogs. But it wouldn’t make me right, or any less of an idiot / lunatic.

Yes, thank you!

I don’t understand why it’s perfectly OK for him to pay an employee who uses some of the the money to purchase contraceptives and not OK to pay an insurance company which uses some of the money to purchase contraceptives. This reeks of “not wanting to pay out for health insurance” type greed and/or “most in-your-face Christian” posturing.

Eeek, sorry for the typo. I was in a hurry?

Look, I support the law. Precisely because I am anti-abortion, I support free contraception for everyone. My point is that both Green and the hypothetical atheist have every right to run their private businesses according to their religious convictions within the law, and if Green wasn’t required by law to provide contraception coverage and chose not to provide it, that’s fine. His employees and customers have a right to go elsewhere.

HL is not trying to prevent their employees from accessing bith control. They’re trying not to pay for abortions. I think their logic is wrong but I’m not going to villify them for that or for taking what legal recourse they have to try to get out of it. That legal recourse failed, so now they need to pay or shut their doors. I’m okay either way.

As far as supporting “funding at least one homophobic organization that is working to suppress LGBT rights” – well, that’s not the same issue is it? If that’s true, I’d want more details and maybe I would consider a boycott. Because just like Mr. Green doesn’t want his money to pay for abortions, I don’t want mine to pay for hatred against LGBTs. Have you got a cite for that?

Not as much as I hate cutesy rhymes.

For yourself or for others? Fortunately, nobody’s ever going to require you to personally have an abortion. Do you advocate against the right of women to get abortions?

Well, that’s a relief. What options do you favor when free contraception fails?

What do legal rights have to do with anything? They’re still assholes. Just because it’s *legal *for large companies to screw over their employees doesn’t mean it’s right. Employers who choose not to cover health benefits/contraception/abortion for their employees are actively amoral.

Moreover, arguing that employees have the right to work at places with other/better health benefits is just ridiculous. A lot of people lack the education, skills, and luck to get into a profession that offers health benefits. They’re stuck with jobs in retail or the hospitality industry, which are notorious for their failure to provide health benefits to their employees. If your choice of employers is between Hobby Lobby, Walmart, or McDonald’s, that’s not a fucking choice.

I *do *think it sucks that healthcare is married to employment in the US, but it’s an unfortunate relic of past policy from an era where a single blue-collar breadwinner could support an entire family. Times have changed, but policy hasn’t kept up. But we’re pretty much stuck with it, for the moment.

Of *course *it’s the same issue. It all ties into their religion’s desire to control people. Read the first post I made in the thread about Hobby Lobby’s ties to Liberty University. I even fucking sourced it and everything!

This…would explain why he keeps bringing me crap I clearly don’t want. Man, I’m going to have to think about this one. Alien Lizard Mailmen. It all makes sense now. Yes. Yes. I’ll have to do something about this posthaste!

I’ve always wondered why Hobby Lobby just doesn’t hire a bunch of Jewish people to work on Sundays. It’s a win-win!

And yet Hobby Lobby has no issue in selling merchandise that is manufactured in China. If I search for information on birth control, sterilization and abortion in China, and if I believe a reasonable fraction of what I find, I conclude that, for unknown reasons, Hobby Lobby must not be aware of this, and that the art supply and tchotchke manufactures of Ireland are entitled to a huge fucking windfall

I absolutely love hearing anti-abortion people say this. (Seriously, kudos to you, Skammer. You are a good person.) Sadly, one hears this position surprisingly rarely. Logically, pro-life people, who believe that terminating a pregnancy is essentially infanticide, should be leading the charge on getting contraception into the hands of every man, woman and child on the planet. Unfortunately many pro-life people are actually far more anti-sexuality than they are pro-life. Being against abortion is just part of a larger tapestry of judging other people for having premarital sex without consequences. Hence their opposition to sex education, birth control, HPV vaccinations, etc. It’s frustrating.

They’re afraid the horns will scare away good god-fearing customers.

It’s a common trope. That said, natural law Catholics (and other natural law proponents) oppose contraception because it contradicts natural law.

Because those who they prefer as customers would never do anything so sinful as shopping on the Holy Day.

Of course art is in the eye of the beholder but I can’t stand “art quilts”. Give me a gorgeous patchwork quilt – that’s art to me.

Actually, I think the Christian Response to that would be that The Lord God Almighty will bless their decision to follow His commands by increasing their sales and profit margins and overall bottom line.

They’re wrong, of course. Lots and lots of faith based businesses go belly up over poor business practices. They still keep doing it, though.

A cat will protect you from the Alien Lizard men (Alien Lizard women too!) because they are natural enemies. Alien Lizards are most afraid of cats that are fixed, and look well fed, so be sure to stock up on tasty kitty treats.

Now let’s hear what the other side has to say!

Oh dear.

Oh, was that YOU?

I could only read a few. I hope those people are using birth control…
