Jesse is obnoxious. She has that same feel that the passive aggressive old lady from like Seattle or thereabouts. What the hell was that bitch’s name? Came around stirred the pot, I think **What Exit **pitted her for being a sanctimonious bitch. She disappeared soon after. Maybe she found God and came back to enlighten us.

I could care less what her religion is, it’s just another vehicle for her craziness.

As far as what you’re saying, I’m in total agreement. In fact, Quiddity Glomfuster came to my mind the second I saw her posts, and I instantly thought it might be her. And if this one gives us at least a fraction of the entertainment Quiddity did, I’m all for it. She was good at the craziness. Those were the days.

IIRC Quiddity was a Buddhist. I tended to agree with her worldview, and we had some interesting e-mail conversations, but she aggressive about pointing out what she thought was morally wrong in other posters, she was just a leeetle bit too uptight. I can see how it could get a annoying, particularly if you didn’t share her perspective. I wish she would come back though.

I admit I raised my eyebrows at the Jesse Leigh comment about how everyone instinctively loves themselves. Having expended a great deal of effort and energy learning to do so, I definitely don’t see it that way. However I really do like the cheerful nature of her posts and I am willing to give her the benefit of the doubt, particularly because her own experiences may be emotionally coloring her opinion.

I always clean my hands because I’m a clean freak and had eight kids and I’ve never gotten out of the habit. I don’t recall being as fastidious when I was a child but certainly since I was fifteen!

We have a plastic Huggies container on the back of the toilet tank and we make a 33% grain alcohol solution (for the uninitiated, that’s 1/3rd vodka and 2/3rd’s distilled water), and we pour it over about 100 Huggie wipes. We use TP mostly for blowing our noses and use the sanitized Huggies for cleaning our particulars. AFTER that, we wash our hands with soap and water - usually. Sometimes, if we didn’t defecate, then we’ll just use another Huggie to clean up.

When we travel, we’re generally in the mountains for 8-10 hours before we reach civilization, so we fertilize the forest and clean up with biodegradable, sanitized Huggies, which we bring from home. I’ve gotten so I don’t feel clean enough using TP anymore and so haven’t used it for years.

If we have to use a gas station’s facilities, we wipe the toilet seat with, you guessed it, sanitized Huggies, and then clean ourselves with Huggies afterward. If the washroom is clean, and most are near our neck of the woods, then we’ll wash our hands normally when we’re finished, but before we eat on the road, or after pumping gas, or handling anything else toxic, we always make use of our sanitized Huggies.

They’re reasonably inexpensive to make as they last for a while - it’s only DH and I at home now, and we know our hands and other important parts are always clean. Y’can’t beat them in the summertime when it’s 90 degrees out for wiping the dust of your face after a three-hour jaunt along mountain roads.

So, do we clean our hands after going to the washroom? You betcha!

Stating things like, “Everyone loves themselves. I know this is true because the Bible tells us so!” might not be witnessing, but it is a less than compelling form of argumentation. It’s also somewhat insensitive to post in a thread about parents who don’t love their children, leaving the children (some of whom were posting in that thread) with a deep and abiding sense of self-loathing. Also, I don’t think Jesse Leigh is correctly interpreting the Bible passage that she is using to dismiss and deny the feelings of so many people in that thread. She sounds pretty smug and condescending IMO, and using the Bible as a vehicle for such arguments is rather ironic.

I agree with this post. It so actually sums up what I would have said that, rather than post my opinion, I will now just go slink away and engage in some seriously heathen activities.
