(And yes, he was Pitted – by myself, no less)
And once again, people, even if this thread IS here because of cute widdle kittieeees, Loretta was still in the wrong for breaking her fucking promise, and doing that to her grandchildren! IF she didn’t like the damned cat, then she shouldn’t have agreed to take care of it in the first place.
You’re squawking to the wrong girl, honey. I have posted that I can’t kill insects and have crises of conscience when I even toss them out a window. They’re living creatures and I can’t forget that. But as loath as I am to kill bugs, I still acknowledge that they’re insects and no, they aren’t equal to mammals. You can mock “cute and flufffy” syndrome all you want, but humans react differently to animals like dogs and cats; we domesticated many of the breeds and many of us look on them as special animals. There are hierarchies in the animal kingdom, like it or not, and you don’t win “cool points” for acting as if that roach you so gleefully trod on is identical in stature to the cat CM drowned in a pond.
And drowning is an absolutely vicious way to kill any creature, I don’t care what animal it is or what they were doing to you. Jesus.
Again, cat hater here. And while I hate liars, especially spineless liars, more (yeah, I already said that), I in particular hate feral cats.
There was no mention in the link whether or not this cat was sterilized or not. It happened to have been captured pretty quickly, but if fertile, and if it had managed to avoid being killed by a predator, or dieing of starvation, or of exposure, then it would likely had mated and within a few generations could have been responsible for siring a virtual feral cat colony with just one mate. Requiring many public resources to deal with, either to kill, or more cost effectively, to capture sterilize and release.
And as a cat hater that would not make me happy. So as a cat hater I dislike Loretta even more.
BTW, my feral cat hatred does not extend to killing them in cruel ways. Yeah that’s a sicko who’d do that. I’ve no objection to euthanizing them mind you, except that it is cheaper to capture, sterilize and release. But drowning? Sadistic bastard even if it is a disgusting and annoying feral cat.
I don’t condone animal abandonment in any way, shape, or form. It runs in the family; my dad had a habit of picking up animals that had been abandoned by the side of the road and bringing them home. One of them (a doberman we named “Bones” because he was so starved you could count his ribs) was probably the best dog we ever had. So, I do feel that abandoning is cowardly and cruel.
On the flip side, however: I’m not squeamish about “doing away” with animals. In fairness, it sounds like there’s a lot of “city folk” here who grew up in an environment where chickens come from the grocery store and animals “get fixed” at the vet’s office. You have to face the fact that people with upbringings different from your own have a different perspective about animals, life, and death. Believe me, I understand; when I first told my wife about how we raised chickens for food, she said, “You killed your PETS?!” Um, no, honey, they weren’t pets, and on the farm, killing a chicken isn’t any different emotionally than picking an ear of corn. So, while I’m not a cat-drowner myself, I can understand and not condemn.
But saying you’ll take care of an animal and then getting rid of it, whether by abandoning it, cutting its throat, or even giving it away to a loving family, is extremely shitty behavior. It’s deceitful, and you know it’ll hurt the person who asked you to care for the animal. Wrong thing, no question.
A lot of times too when you take animals to shelters, they’ll automatically spay or neuter them.
Too bad we don’t do that for shitty-acting humans.
Well, they spay/neuter the animals before they’ll release them. If it’s a shelter that routinely euthanizes animals that aren’t adopted in a certain length of time, then the animal is left whole until/unless someone adopts it. This conserves vet time and money. And, after all, why put the animal through surgery if it’s only going to be put to sleep in a week or so?
