OK, so some of the newer theater seats aren’t too bad. They’ve made some improvements over the years, (bigger seats, cup-holders, etc) but one thing remains constant: the shared armrest! You know, that one armrest in the middle of two chairs, and the ever present battle between the two patrons over whose arm will rest there… would it kill them to make sure each chair had two armrests?
Same thing w/ airplanes. If you’re taller than me, I get the back of the armrest.
But that’s for lovers and gropers alike. What’s life without a little fun?
It’s all a grand social experiment. Smile for the cameras.
This is why I like going to early-morning movies. They’re rarely full, so you almost never end up sitting next to another person and being forced to share the armrest. And even if you get stuck with one of those weirdos who insists on sitting right next to a person in a nearly empty theater, you have plenty of places to move to.
Unless your shoulders are wider than mine, I get the armrests. If they are, I’ll sit somewhere else.
And for that, the armrests need to be able to fold up, like on airplanes.
Saw Skyfall last Friday with Mrs. & Junior. Regal Cinema has double seats I’ve not noticed before. Perfect for teens on a date, or a lardass like me. I claimed it for me while pushing my crew on to their single, armrested seats. It was sweet!
I’m not so big I need the seatbelt extension on a plane, but plane seats are much less comfortable now than when I was, well, skinny. I know the name of the game is revenue, but I’d sure like to see a lot of places widen their seats. Theaters, concert venues, ball parks and stadiums.
I don’t know if Americans really are getting larger, but 6’2" 280 pound guys aren’t exactly rare. It would be nice to have a seat that fits. With your own armrest!
Average theatre seat=19 to 22"
Seat on Southwest=17"
Average American=Not 17"
Just stuff your hands in your pants and smile a lot. Not only does it solve the armrest problem, but your neighbors soon move.
Stuff your hands in your neighbor’s pants and they’ll move even quicker.
mmm
That would depend on which type of movie theater we’re talking about.
Type of movement, too.
