I pit my conspiracy-theorist landlord

Do they sell “Ketanji Brown Jackson” embroidered pillows? He seems like a ‘pillow guy’.

I came in today and he was watching a Putin-led crowd singing the Russian national anthem.

“He’s a good singer,” he said to me.

“Why are you watching that?”

“Putin’s fighting the Deep State in his country.”

“You know, there was a time when Republicans didn’t like Russians.”

“They changed.”

Lord, help me.

I thought Putin is the Deep State in his country.

Came back in later. Told him that Putin is an unrepentant murderer. He murders his critics, his opposition, journalists, and his own citizens. (To say nothing of Ukrainians and Georgians.) That there’s no such thing as freedom of speech or religion, or free and fair elections, in Russia. That he amended the Constitution to make it possible for him to be president for life.

He said he’s against one-world government, like he is, so he can’t be all bad, and that Ukraine isn’t as blameless as the mainstream media makes them out to be. He cited a YouTube video he was watching about “Putin and the Deep State”.

You know who else wasn’t all bad?

No. Strike that. Yes, yes, he was all bad. And so’s Putin.

Have you tried the direct approach?

(ekedolphin to POS landlord): Where did you get your sudden support of a Soviet spymaster who is doing his best to recreate the Soviet Union? Why do you think the inane rantings of a compromised lunatic like Trump sends you so far to the dark side?

That other guy wasn’t all bad, if it was who I’m thinking of - He DID kill Hitler, after all.

I think Putin is in favor of one-world government, in particular one with him in charge.

I think at this point a lot of people are contrary just for the sake of being contrary. By bucking conventional wisdom they can feel superior to those sheeple who just take what everyone tells them at face value rather than thinking for themselves. So they developed a knee jerk reaction to say black when everyone else says white. So if everyone says Putin is an genocidal dictator, I should say he’s a good guy.

Agreed, but I’m not sure why this needs to be framed in a vague bipartisan manner. If “a lot of people” = a lot of Republicans, and “conventional wisdom” = reality, sure.

Well, can’t argue with that! They wouldn’t allow it on the internet if it wasn’t true!

I was talking about conspiracists in general which may or may not be political (I don’t see the area 51 autopsy being associated with any particular party). But as far as comparing the parties, yeah, its all on one side.

I’d hoist the landlord on his own petard:

“Ah, that’s exactly what the DEEP Deep State wants you to believe. What? You’ve never heard of the DEEP Deep State? Yeah, they’re so good, only a handful of people know they exist. Now you’re one of them. Putin is their pawn. The Deep State is their cover. Be very careful who you tell. They’re everywhere, man.”

It’s Deep States all the way down!

Anybody notice that State, backwards, is états – French for [wait for it] states ?

And there’s your ironclad proof that JFK Jr. is coming back.

QED

I think this is the nub of much of the thinking of conspiracy theorists. It gives them a warm feeling to think that they have “special” knowledge or are smarter than all these fools around them.

This probably comes from a deep seated insecurity, perhaps from the fact that they have been fuck-ups and idiots for their whole lives, and have failed at many things. Instead of looking inwardly, and improving themselves, they come up with nutty reasons why they have been foiled, and are actually smart and “in the know”.

Next time you see your landlord, tell him, “Thanks for the DNA.”

I thought the DEEP Deep State was supposed to be Trump and Q. The people playing chess when others play checkers.

That’s what the Deep3 folks want you to think.

Trump can play chess?

Trump can’t spell chess.
