My SIL Husband is a conspracy nut! Who knew?

Some back ground, I haven’t seen the guy in about 10 years. He is in his 40’s college educated, and lives in Wyoming. A hiker, camper, bicycle rider, and makes sure I know he is/was an Eagle scout . Now here is a list of thinks that he believes( at first I thought he was kidding)

!) The astronauts did not land on the moon ever. So I looked up the 'Moom Landing Hoax" website where it goes over all the scientific reasons that it did happen. He didn’t believe any of it.
2) JFK was killed by the US governemnt so we could become more involved in Vietnam! He said JFK was pulling out of Vietnam and the US government wanted to stay in the war.
3) The WTC was blown up by the CIA( now the SD has had pages and pages of debates on this conspracy)
4) The US Government New of Pearl Harbor before the it happened.

By this time I realized he was serious and I didn’t want to go into the Holocaust, because then if he denied it I would have been all over his ass. As it stood, I called it quits. Can’t reason with him…Don’t want to.

They are only here three more days.

A long time ago I was into Conspiracy Theories just for their entertainment value. Now I’m just irritated by The Stupid.

I suggest that you mess with him from now on with outlandish, purely ridiculous and outright laughable petty assed ‘conspiracies’ at every turn.

Waitress slow to bring the check? It’s a conspiracy by the restaurant business to get you to order more drinks and desserts.

Snacks by the register at the gas station? The station owners are being paid off by the medical industry and the HFCS industries (in collusion, naturally) to make Americans fat and therefore drive the need for more medical services. I’m sure the Dentists are in on it, because surely that shit is just there to rot your teeth.

High bank fees are just part of the conspiracy to impoverish America so that it can be more easily subjugated and enslaved by the New World Order.

Soy milk is part of the vast conspiracy to emasculate males, since we know that Soy is high in compounds that mimic female hormones. That’s also why we see Lavender in everything these days.

People seem to take comfort in conspiracy theories in the face of their own feelings of failure or powerlessness, at least in my experience. I wonder how that might apply to this guy.

BTW, “SIL husband” = wife’s sister’s husband?

No further explanation needed.

I suggest just for the entertainment value you say two words near him “Fema Camps”.

There’s ignorant, and then there’s willfully ignorant.

Stupidity should be painful, that’s what I always say.

Husband’s sister’s husband.

Let’s don’t overlook the obvious - Son-In-Law’s husband.

Which would make the guy his son.

Glad to help out.

HEY! My father lives in WY with his armory!

Oh, wait… NM.

Three? But I heard on NPR that the Rapture is scheduled for the 21st. That’s NINE more days…

You left out the fact that obese people weigh the car down more, and cause it to burn extra gasoline…

The government allowed 9/11 to happen so U2 could play the 2002 Superbowl and quit bothering the Administration about African debt forgiveness.

Now you’re bringing New Mexico into this?

There’s a NEW Mexico? When did that happen?

That’s just what they WANT you to think. If you only knew the real story…

Just what we need. Another foreign country.

Isn’t that your brother-in-law? That’s what I call mine.

Aforementioned brother-in-law believes in this one (as well as many other conspiracy theories). Those are the concentration camps that the current administration have built in Montana, right? Where they take everyone’s guns away?

I think that the OP is trying to get as much distance between this nutcase and him/herself.

I think it boils down to the fact that if there’s a conspiracy, there’s also a plan that was carried out. Horrible things, therefore, happen for grander reasons than they do in real life. Plus it makes them into extra special people who know something the vast mass of other people don’t. A plan implies controlled elements. And of course, some conspiracies just aren’t looney toons stuff, there’s an agenda.

I wonder how many conspiracy nuts there are these days? It sure seems like there’s an overwhelming number of them. Birthers, Deathers, Truthers, Bin Laden’s still alive…

That would make sense except that these particular conspiracy theories are depressingly common.
