I’ve worked for poorly managed companies and the reason that things are ALWAYS in disarray is not the fault of the management, but the fault of the last guy who no longer works here that fucked everything up royally.
Then when things don’t improve and someone else quits or gets canned, it was his fault. Then the next guy, and the next guy.
Management is just blaming you when they should look in the mirror for the real culprit.
They are idiots of the first order. Management. They were dumb enough to destroy their own company rather than thin the ranks of stupid and redundant managers. They disposed of your livelihood, and then blamed you for the consequences of their decision. You owe them nothing. They are idiots who hurt you and continue to bad mouth you behind your back. Give them and their company no further thought. Life is too short for such dipshits.
All you can really do, that’s near to positive or constructive is take a lesson. The next time you’re quick to judge someone, no matter how righteous you may feel, remind yourself that maybe, just maybe, there’s a little more to it than you may be privy to. Just entertain the possibility, is really all it takes.
Yeah, I know, sounds all Pollyanna and shit, but it’s true that it takes the same amount of grit to grind something into rubble as to polish something into a gem. Attitude is everything, choose wisely what your take away is - in every situation.
Amazing people don’t just happen, they put in some effort.
I agree with everyone saying that it’s scapegoating, possibly with insufficient information, and that you will eventually just need to ignore it and get on with things. But damn, that’s nasty. Being angry right after learning about it is completely natural.
Don’t take it personally, it’s just cognitive dissonance on the part of upper management and rumor-mongering in regards to everyone else. If they admitted to themselves that your old boss left because the job was turning into a shitshow, they’d have to admit that they’re working for a shitshow company. I assume you have a good reference from him, right? Well, you don’t work there anymore. It doesn’t matter.
I do now that he has a new job, but at the time I didn’t have any reference. The company has a policy against giving professional recommendations due to “liability reasons.”
Someone give that man a medal, he did you a huge favor!
This is standard in professional environments. I had to get work-quality references from my coworkers at my last place of employment, which were sufficient to land me my current (much better!) job. My supervisor liked me, and I left voluntarily on good terms, but he couldn’t give a reference for anything. We used a third party to verify employment and that’s all they would do.
Why does it even matter? You work somewhere else so they can have all the bad vibes they want over in their office. It doesn’t directly impact you in any way.
What, were you friends with them or something? Since they jump to the worst possible conclusion, it’s pretty obvious they don’t think they were friends with you or they’d give you a bigger benefit of the doubt.
There’s no reason to give a damn about what non-friends think of you when you’ve already got the new job.
