I pit over-the-top Anti-Trump hysteria

We are reaching flat-earther levels of delusions here.

You are not winning by any measure.

You are making an ass of yourself.

Hey, Charlie, why not simply declare that you won and stop posting in this thread?

We both know that’s not true.

I have never in my life seen someone winning an argument declare that they are winning an argument.

Still using Trump’s pollsters, I see.

But we’ve seen lots of trolls do so.

I don’t think anyone, including you, knows what your argument is.

His argument is that he’s winning the argument.

Their argument reminds me a bit of Calvinball.

Thanks for bringing this back to the point of the thread, which is all about exaggeration. The OP exaggerated the extent to which Democrats are making exaggerated claims about Trump’s actions or intentions. (Meanwhile, Republicans routinely make exaggerated claims about Democrats’ actions or intentions).

A complication is that Trump himself is sometimes an exaggerator. IMO, Democrats (and other anti-Trumpers) spend 99.9% of their political time alerting others to horrific actions Trump really is committing, and 0.1% alerting them to what are probably Trump exaggerations – which tend to be things that Trump might want to do (on some level), but truly cannot (like enslaving millions of Americans).

Meanwhile, Republicans spend 80% of their time making untrue (exaggerated) claims about Democrats. Not 0.1%, but 80%. (All figures pulled out of my ass. Sue me.) “Claims,” for both sides, include in online fora and at the kitchen table, not just official published sources.

So, the OP touches on a very small, legitimate point: Even that 0.1% is a bit of wasted time and energy. Good to be reminded that we anti-Trumpers should avoid those ten seconds of our life when we wondered aloud about nuclear war, when we could have used those ten seconds hammering home about ICE, tariffs, etc, etc. Got it. Done.

The OP was wrong to use a word (hysteria) that is BOTH exaggerated AND misogynist. (I had to be schooled on the latter assertion - though I was aware of the eytmology). Every time I see the thread title pop up, I think the same thing: is the OP wrong about the prevalence of Democrats exaggerating, or are they wrong about how bad Trump’s actions and intentions really are? In other words, when the thread was started, was the OP thinking, “Trump would never actually start a protracted war with, say, Iran…” – so he was mischaracterizing some of that 99.9% of Democratic warnings as exaggerated (“hysterical”), which in fact were (or turned out to be) accurate?

Or are they simply wrong about the proportion of exaggerated vs. accurate Democratic claims?

I get the sense that it’s the latter. The OP’s claim has been refuted since early on in this thread. It’s hard to prove a negative, but I think it’s clear by now that very rarely do Democrats make such claims. (Yes, there’s Der Trihs – who isn’t even a Democrat). The thread could have ended long ago, on the facts. (The lesson about “hysterical” was instructive – that deserved another month or two.)

Perhaps the OP would consider asking the mods to close the thread. (If not, I’ll have to force myself to be more disciplined, and squelch any hope that something new has arisen in it).

Nope.

discourse

Why would he? He’s told us that he’s having fun posting over and over and over again, baiting anyone who takes the hook.

He’s like the guy who runs onto the football field with only his underpants on his head:

“LOOK! Everyone is paying attention to Meeeee!”

Let me clear it up for you: he’s doing it to be annoying and he thinks it’s funny. Troll.

Oops. Edit here this post was for Pincrusher. Sorry DavidNRockies

fwiw, you don’t need to add “discourse” any more since ECG lowered the minimum
post length.
(but you still can if you want to !)

It didn’t accept just an emoticon. I tried.

:person_shrugging:

:red_question_mark:

ETA: huh. It worked. I could post just the emoticon (is that an emoticon, or called something else?) I’m surprised. Recent change?

Yes. Read all about it here..
