My eyes and ears. What’s preventing you?
Your eyes and ears are manufacturing hallucinations that make you think that people will break the law for Trump? Or are there real things in the real world that you’ve seen and heard that make you think that?
If the latter, I assume that’s what Smapti was asking for, not a list of sensory organs.
I’ve seen “Ted” Cruz and Lil Marco transform from staunch never-Trump patriots to the cringing, enabling lickspittles they are today, as a fairly obvious example. Think they’d balk at breaking a law? Really?
Hallucinations?
…and therefore, we don’t need to put any defenses in Pearl Harbor, because Hawaii isn’t in Europe?
Neither of them have any power over the electoral process. What makes you think Brian Kemp is suddenly going to decide he wants to break the law to help Trump when he refused to in 2020?
Because this time there are assholes like you telling people to get out of his way because there is nothing to worry about, so his support strengthens?
I don’t think you understand how power works.
Rubio and Cruz are not doing what they are doing because they are keen rule-followers. They are doing what they are doing in order to get to a place where they don’t HAVE to follow rules.
The electoral process is a bit like the Consitution or a Court Order—it’s not something that just magically happens. It happens because people agree that it should be done and then people sit down and do it. If enough people don’t agree that it should be done, despite past custom and procedure, and / or don’t actually do it, it doesn’t happen.
In this scenario, what I think is most likely is that it happens badly, to the degree that both sides will declare victory, and then they’ve achieved the twin aims of destroying confidence in elections, and not outright losing said elections. As they are the party in power, the victory would be more likely to go to their team.
Sure. I’m the one who’s going to push him into suddenly deciding that he wants to risk spending the rest of his life in prison in order to help a senile octogenarian become a dictator.
In more “Don’t worry your little heads about it” news, Don Lemon was arrested for reporting on an anti-ICE protest at a church.
Check your ego at the door, chump. You are just another enabler, one of far too many.
Alright, so who in a position to do something about it is currently arguing that elections shouldn’t happen?
Nobody. Literally nobody. As has been said repeatedly, elections happen in all sorts of totalitarian states, with the despot routinely garning above 90%. Of course elections will happen.
As far as free and fair elections, how about all of the people agitating against mail-in voting?
I think the question next time won’t be whether Brian Kemp et al will refuse to break the law, but whether the troops ordered to shoot them for doing so will obey those orders. There is no useful historical precedent that we can extrapolate from.
Several murderers seem to have come to exactly that conclusion in the past few weeks. Are you new?
I think the standard answer to your tired and repetitive “I t didn’t happen this time or that time, so what makes you think it will happen this time?” should be:
Different people, different circumstances, different politics, different judicial system, and people saying “Don’t get in the way because there is nothing to worry about.”
In my area, students at local high school are doing a walkout so the teachers are stopping classes two hours early and putting on a movie for the kids that aren’t involved in the walkout.
The comments I saw on the facebook post about it are identical to the ones in that article.
FB “This is nothing more than an anti-American political stunt.”
NYT " this is just performative politics"
FB "they are not doing their jobs well and now in order to support some foolish protest instead of teaching they will take the afternoon off. "
NYT “teacher unions are always looking for excuses for their members to slough off work”
I could keep going but I don’t want to read any more of the comments.
Good thing I’ve never said any such thing.
Mine too. I’m so proud of them! Hysteria naysayers be damned!
(FYI – New York Post, not NYT)
This post is astounding because it shows that you almost get it but then you come to a completely ridiculous conclusion.
I don’t think you understand how power works.
If Trump manages to “game” the electoral system through some patently transparent means like the false slate of electors scheme, then he has corrupted the process to the point where the process declaring him president does not actually grant him any legitimacy.
Being president doesn’t give you the magical power to control the actions of US citizens.
If both sides “declare victory” then democracy is over and whoever gains the loyalty of the biggest army wins. There’s no “not outright losing said election”, there’s “tossing the entire electoral system in the trash can, pouring in a gallon of gasoline, and then dropping a match in there”.
I think the far more likely outcome in that scenario is that rather than following Trump into what could only be a civil war, most of his enablers in Congress abandon him.
Again, what does that accomplish for Trump? He has Brian Kemp and co executed and then rigs the election? What’s the purpose of winning an election whose legitimacy you’ve completely thrashed?
