Modern “metal” and all its iterations (did we really need the sub-genre distinctions?) mostly sucks, especially anything that’s so thrashy that it doesn’t contain melody, is subsumed with cookie-monster vocals which also suck, or is so distilled and repetitious that its boring as fuck.
Peeps on here have pointed me in the right direction before with some modern “metal” bands that actually don’t suck, but I can’t recall their names or the names of their songs because even though they don’t suck, they are mostly throwaway and forgettable. Come to think of it, most music coming out these days qualifies for that dubious honor. Cool, but ultimately meaningless and forgotten a year later. Not so with much of the classic library of all music.
