Rush Limbaugh Scandal Proves Contagious for Talk-Radio Advertisers
As 98 big advertisers ditch ‘offensive’ shows, right-wing talk radio stands to get rocked. By John Avlon.
Wait a minute! Elton John is gay?
Does Kiki Dee know?
Crap. My mistake. Got pushed by a deadline and rushed to post when should have thought more carefully instead. Mea culpa.
I think the point is clear by these two sentences. How can you use condoms for STD protection and it not be birth control?
Makes a change from him giving his hard earned money to people he propositioned.
Also, there’s a pretty big difference between people calling someone a slut when they hold that God demanded that women be stoned for having premarital sex as a basic tenet of their faith. Or at least he inspired the book where people recorded that rule. I actually dislike Maher for his position on alternative medicine more than anything else. At any rate, it’s equivocation or the two wrongs fallacy.
But money is speech, by depriving him of money they’re censoring him!
Hmm…
Well, I certainly hope he doesn’t adopt other honour based arrangements to filial pre-marital sex.
Finally: I think the modern just-world conception is based on biological deterministic principles that we need to more efficiently develop counter-memes against. In the unenlightened view, males incur little cost to promiscuity, whereas for females it carries a dangerous risk of pregnancy. In that view, dimorphism dictates coyness is a positive trait in females and pursuit a positive one in males… However, our civilisation should be past the point of relying on nature for morality.
Edit: Oh, according to another thread law school may take 8 years to complete. I guess that may include barrister training of some sort?
Scylla’s been MIA since 3/2/12, last activity was in this thread. Hoping if he’s absent for awhile, we’ll forget?
Well, not Liberace gay.
Wait, I take that back. He’s exactly Liberace gay.
Gives a whole new meaning to “Don’t let the sun go down on me,” donit?
I think what Mighty_Girl was saying is that during the times in long-term relationships when her only preventative concern was birth control, she used “natural family planning” methods instead of condoms, etc.
For what it’s worth, I’ve done that too, and recommend it if you’re a well-organized (and preferably regularly-menstruating) type of person who’s good at following a routine and keeping track of data (and also has a very clear backup plan in case you do get pregnant, which come to think if it is important no matter what type of contraception you’re using). It has the advantage (as do IUDs and the pill, of course) of not requiring you to deal with your birth control procedures while you’re in the process of having sex.
Liberace’s gay?
Granpa? Who’s “Liberace”?
Liberace’s gay?
Not anymore. He’s changed. You wouldn’t recognize him if you saw him today.

Still sports serious bone though.
This is all so one sided, somebody should stick up for Rush. Really, somebody should.
This guy did: Students Silently Protest Professor Who Defended Limbaugh, Ridiculed Fluke
So proud of those students.
The Daily Beast has a story this morning that Premier Networks, which distributes the Rush Limbaugh show and other right wing talk shows, has put out an email to affiliates stating that 98 corporations have requested their commercial not be run on “offensive or controversial programs.”

It would have been better if they had crossed their arms and turned their backs to him.

Doesn’t it have the disadvantage of limiting you from having sex at certain times? Or at least the sexual acts you can do at those times?

Just posted this at the guy’s blog:

March 10, 2012 at 4:12 pmSteve, I applaud you for scrutinizing Limbaugh’s use of “slut” and “prostitute” for their inaccuracy in this case. He at least has the excuse of being a pundit and a “commedian” – it’s their job to distort situations to serve their agendas.
However, my question to you is if you are against insurance in principle, or is it only when the specter of sex is brought into the equation that you suddenly respond? If we have insurance plans that cover regular checkups and associated costs for dental cleanings, eye exams, etc, why is it suddently too much to ask these plans cover another medical issue, hormone stabilization?
This seems an odd choice if your concern is the impression she is demanding to be paid. Is it demanding to be paid to have a health care plan that covers routine doctors visits, such as for colds? Is it demanding to be paid to have a prescription medicine plan? If that truly is your concern, then picking the issue of whether “birth control pills” are covered seems a distraction. Shouldn’t you start with broader issues and make your case in a way that affects everyone, and doesn’t look like an attack on women? Seems sexist to me to stake out birth control and women when your beef is with insurance as a whole.
Oh, but your beef isn’t with insurance as a whole, is it? You’re just worked up because “birth control” brings sex into the equation, and somehow that suddenly changes the situation.
Birth control is an issue that should be between the patient and her doctor, and perhaps her family and her partner/s.
The legitimate issue behind all this is not about a woman’s right to have sex, or to use the birth control of her choice. The issue is whether employers or colleges or other institutions that offer health care plans should be able to limit their coverage of things in those plans based upon their own value judgements, and what options are available for the employees/students for selecting alternate health care plans.
Rush’s turns to insults do nothing to illuminate or further that discussion. It only serves to insult and degrade women. Rush did not subject Fluke’s arguments to ridicule and mockery he addressed his insults and mockery at Fluke herself, and the women that Fluke was testifying on behalf of. He took a broad swipe at women’s right to have reproductive control based upon their own choices and morals, whether single or married, promiscuous or chaste. Those remarks are nothing to be proud of, they are an insult to us all, women and men alike.
Your defense of Rush misses that salient distinction, and thus marks you as a misogynist and a jackass.
Doesn’t it have the disadvantage of limiting you from having sex at certain times? Or at least the sexual acts you can do at those times?
Yes, it does.
Well, surprise, my comment was moderated.
Irishman, I didn’t get a chance to read that blog before you were disappeared. However, I did get a kick out of one of the other comments. They suggested a tax on all sexually active males, since they receive an obvious from subsidized birth control.
I would take it a step farther. I would levy the tax based on the number of women each male has had sex with, plus a partial rate on all the women the male was just about to have sex with before some intervening factor occurred to prevent it. The individual results would be published on the internet with hard copies available free with a self-addressed stamped envelope.
This place really has turned into the left-wing moron society.
Here:
"Exit polls show that Obama’s emphasis on women’s issues helped to bring him victory In the U.S. presidential election of 2008.
Nationally it is estimated that Senator Obama received 35,900,000 votes from women and 27,800,00 from men. He benefited by emphasizing issues that were important to women and their families.Read more at Suite101: Obama and the Women’s Vote: Eight Million More Women than Men Voted for Obama | Suite101.com Suite 101 - How-tos, Inspiration and Other Ideas to Try"
And now here:
http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?section=news/national_world&id=8561269
"President Barack Obama is increasing his support among women, and Republicans appear to deserve some of the credit.
Polls show Obama’s standing among female voters is strengthening as the economy improves and as social issues, including birth control, have generated political headlines."
As 2012 rolls along Obama, like any good Democrat, knows he needs to court one of his biggest bases, stupid, easily manipulated women.
So what he does make up this issue that “Hey, Catholic universities should have to offer birth control” which he knows is unconstitutional, but it’s the gesture that counts, and if they can’t do it, then insurance companies can, right?
Then he gets this brazen slut to chum the waters for stupid Republican by suggesting we should pay for her birth control (when you pay for my beer I’ll consider it.)
This is so fucking transparent, only a left wing idiot or a stupid republican could take it at face value. The whole point is to get a Republican to say that this is not a good idea on so many different levels, or openly denounce her and then we can trot out the old
REPUBLICANS HATE WOMEN meme (which we need to do every election year.)
Now that a couple of people said this was a bad idea and Rush called the brazen slut, a “slut,” Obama can call her up and offer her his sympathies and show he cares about women’s rights , and thereby secure the vote of stupid and easily manipulated women.
What bothers me in this whole manufactured bullshit is that they didn’t even try harder to make it less obvious what they were doing.I don’t who the dumbest morons are
Is it the stupid easily manipulated women for whom this is targeted, who seem to enjoy the passive aggressive manipulation and are drawn to it the way a hooker is drawn to the abusive charisma of her pimp?Is it the stupid Republicans who actually rose to the debate to say that this was a bad idea somehow not sensing the trap?
Or is it you people… who think this is real?*Note: I’m not saying that all or most women are stupid and easily manipulated, just that the subclass of women who are both stupid and easily manipulated are the target of this blatantly timed and manufactured issue.
The biggest misogyny is that the Democrat party leadership seems to estimate that quite a large portion of the female populace seems to fall into the stupid and easily manipulated category.
I hope they are not right.
I wonder if you agree with theTaliban on their ideas of what a woman should do, or be? You would do well in those countries in my opinion, and wonder about how much you really know about women, and why you can judge everyone who disagrees with you?
