Here’s the story.
In short, the Rialto Unified School District assigned eighth-graders to “write an argumentative essay, utilizing cited textual evidence, in which you explain whether or not you believe the Holocaust was an actual event in history, or merely a political scheme created to influence public emotion and gain.”
As if this wasn’t enough, one of the sources provided by the district to the students was from a Holocaust denial and conspiracy website, biblebelivers.com.au, titled “Is the Holocaust a Hoax?”
The school district has since apologized – but someone in the school District put forward a Holocaust-denial assignment and somehow no one noticed until it got to the kids… or, alternatively, someone noticed but was okay with it. I’m not sure which is worse!
They have released no names, which may or may not be appropriate, but promotion of Holocaust denial should certainly be grounds for termination for an educator.
