Well, let’s see. I don’t have my personal tax statements handy since I’m at the school, but I can say that my business has been billed over $5700 in property taxes in the last five years and that about $2400 of that went to HISD.
But it doesn’t matter what my share is. What matters, as I pointed out and you ignored, is that those are tax dollars being wasted on political correctness instead of education.
In everyone’s defense, you’re so generally delusional and inept at thinking, it’s hard to pin down what particular stupidity you’re on about at any given time.
Since the other stadiums mentioned weren’t in the district, i found one that is:
Budget: $35,278,934 http://www.houstonisd.org/Page/77672
Technically a stadium, baseball field and a field house. And the budget, as i mentioned previously, Is subject to those dame construction cost overruns.
Serious question: is this a normal, non-outrageous amount to spend on a venue for high school athletes? It seems like rather a lot to me.
Suppose Houston schools decided to treat school names as a source of revenue. They sold off the naming rights of public schools to the highest bidder. This would bring in money to be used for education without requiring any taxes, so a win there.
Now suppose some group got together and bought the naming rights to schools in your area. And this group has left-wing views. They want the schools you’ll drive by every day to be named after Hillary Clinton, Jane Fonda, Michael Moore, Rosie O’Donnell, and Al Sharpton.
Would you be okay with this? Would you figure school names are just empty symbols devoid of any importance? Or would you oppose the idea because you feel some names are inappropriate for public schools?
Personally, I feel these kinds of symbols matter. I wouldn’t want my child going to a school, even if it was otherwise a fine school, that was named after somebody I felt didn’t deserve the honor. (In my case that would include both Jane Fonda and Jefferson Davis.) And I’d be willing to put my money where my heart is - I’d support changing the school name even if it was going to cost me some tax money.
I do hope you’re not trying to pretend that it’s personally cost you $2400 to rename seven schools in Houston. 'Cause it certainly seems that’s what you’re doing.
Big deal. How do we know that Houston ISD is getting the best price for band uniforms, or not saving a buck or so a pop by leaving off some decorative feature? Should they save money by deferring maintenance on their school buses, hire another contractor or something else? There’s all kind of things a school board might be wasting money on, and I applaud you for your concern. I just wonder why this particular issue, of all others, got you to your warrior’s keyboard.
Seems like you’re one of those guys who thinks you only should have to pay tax for the things you happen to like.
And what your share is does indeed matter, if you expect any sympathy for this terrible use of 50 cents or so that is probably your actual share of the renaming costs. I will give you exactly as much sympathy for that as I would for the change you’ve probably lost in the sofa.
Anyway, you should move on up here to Montgomery County. Reliably votes 64-66% Republican every election. I bet Conroe ISD wouldn’t go in for any of this namby-pamby renaming business.
We’ve already got schools named after people I think are losers. We’re stuck with them. But if HISD decided to change those school name for no valid reason whatsoever like they are doing now, I’d be bitching about the waste of taxpayer money just like I am now.
If the money thing bothered you, you’d pit other things that waste money. However, given your political leanings, it’s clear that what bothers you is that you don’t think the names are that big a deal. That people would bother replacing them seems like a complete waste of money because you think it doesn’t matter. And that is the thing you are getting reverse-pitted for
And don’t think this is a thought process I only apply to people who disagree with me or even to other people. It is 100% how I figure out why something really bothers me. We lie to ourselves all the time.
Am I anywhere near as clueless as Clothahump, a man who wouldn’t know a clue if he were standing in the middle of Clueville, looking at a sign that says “You are Here”, whilst surrounded by a herd of clues singing and dancing to “Happy Clues are Here Again”? Haven’t a clue.
HISD has been in the news for many years, off and on. It’s telling that this is the only issue that got Clothalump’s attention. (I’ve got coworkers with kids at various HISD schools. They seem to be doing fine. Or course, it helps to have parents who care about education.)
