Why would you pit fun? Fun shouldn’t be pitted. Because fun is fun. The pit is not a place fun should be. Don’t pit fun! It is just wrong and no fun.
I have no idea about the thread in question, and was going to ask for a link but then realised that’s probably the last thing the OP is looking for.

I have the same problem with the Elections thread “Could Al Franken change his mind and stay?”. It triggers a Bob Dylan earworm everytime I see it. But it’s alright…
As long as we’re talking about song threads here, are we no longer allowed to do song threads? I thought I’d revive the old SDMB tradition of posting lines from “Fairytale of New York” on Christmas Eve, but I gather, from the reception the thread got, that is is no longer a thing to do here. Please enlighten me.

I was unaware of this [del]Internet[/del] SDMB tradition. But I couldn’t even tell you whether “Fairytale of New York” was a movie, a song, or what.
There’s an ATMB thread about it. I gather the problem was one poster spoiled the fun by posting all the lyrics (copyright violation), junior modded, altered text in a quote box, and insulted another poster, so Chronos closed it down. But, he commented that individual posters quoting just a line or two is acceptable under fair use copyright rules, even if the net result is that the whole song eventually gets posted seriatim.
It’s causing you earworms, huh? Do you have a song that you sing to derail earworms? My current one is Still Alive. The trick is to sing enough of it to destroy the earworm and not enough to cause another one. Good luck.
I’m of mixed emotions regarding the issue.
On the one hand, I wasn’t aware such a thread existed.
On the other hand, despite the lack of a link to the thread in question, the mere mention in the OP of an earworm being generated by it is generating an earworm for me.
