I Pit the SDMB Search Feature (Weak)

The current setup of the Search feature, which doesn’t allow searches using three-letter words, is really, really, really annoying me right now.

Thought I’d do some research on GPS navigators before buying one. Oops! GPS is a three letter acronym. I had to substitute Garmin instead (and as a result probably missed relevant threads).

Same story with the DVD player I just bought. Can’t search for the term DVD. (At least HDTV is searchable!)

Can’t find recent threads on gay rights, because I can’t use gay in the search. Can’t look up any of the old threads on pit bulls, because pit is a three letter word.

I know the restriction is there to spare the hamsters, but it is still driving me crazy! Damn it, English has a LOT of three letter words in it; it would be nice if the Search feature would play nicely with them.

(Told you it was a lame rant.)

Try GPS*

Or ‘gps’

I can’t search for my username, because ‘Man’ and ‘Wit’ are three letters, and ‘Half’ is a bit too common; I had tried quotation marks to indicate the search string be used as-is, which didn’t work – now I just tried with inverted commas, and got an error (and, of course, 300s wait).

So yeah, I fully support this pit.

As a slight tangent, is there any way to do a case-sensitive search?

 Oh, you funny little man!

Yes, it is.

I thought it was a vBulletin setting, not a hamster thing.
