All I know is that collectively assigning blame or credit to immutable characteristics or very hard to change characteristics is quite often and accurately labeled as bigotry. It is true that some bigotry is sanctioned and some is tolerated if not condoned.

I have never asked his politics and never will. I’m afraid I wouldn’t like the answer. (Not like it’d probably be atypical for the area I’m in anyway.)

I do wonder if there’s something about the culture that heightens whatever nationalistic tendencies you have while you’re there, but less so the longer you’ve been away.

I just want to point out that the cities of Texas are, by and large, quite blue, and an awful lot of Texans live in the cities. Down near the border is also very blue. Trump won 52% of the vote. There are lots of liberal Texans.

I concede that my perspective might be colored a bit by my state. The capital is in one of those red counties, the pale one to the lower left. (I’m not sure what is in the blue ones. Cows? Liberal cows?)
