I pit the South

Cows are definitely liberal. Let’s look: they’re anti-gun, vegetarian, decide everything by consensus, and enjoy classical music, just for starters. I bet they’re some of the illegal voters who are putting Democrats into office.

I know it’s hard to believe but in some locations clear English is clear English and not dependent upon how it placates the vocal few.

Clear communication, you believe, does not depend on communicating clearly with the intended audience.

If that’s not what you mean, you’re still not communicating clearly.

Atlanta? You mean the home of Martin Luther King, John Lewis, and Andrew Young? The city that’s been represented in Congress by two black congressmen since 2007 (one of whom has held his seat since 1987?) The town whose last white mayor - who was Jewish - left office in 1974, and which is currently led by its second female African-American chief executive? The burg which Stacey Abrams, a black woman, won by 72% in the 2018 gubernatorial race? The sanctuary city which was the first in Georgia to pass a law forbidding discrimination on basis of gender identity and orientation, nearly two decades ago?

Yeah, fuck that racist shithole.

What is the statistic, 40% of Americans don’t have $400 dollars on hand for emergency expenses? Geez you’re ignorant aren’t you?

You could look at it that only 348K people voted against Bryant (that looks like the 2011 election result) in other words, 8 out of every 9 Mississippeans are just fine with Bryant.

4 years later, even fewer people (a mere 241K) bothered to vote against him. Basically, 11 out of every 12 people in Mississippi seem to like him enough quo that they either actively voted for him or passively sat back while he was elected. 90+% of Mississippi is effectively pro-Bryant.

Why shouldn’t those people be part of the pitting? We’re in a democracy; the people are the government. At a certain point (well below 90%), the terribleness of the government is a reflection of the electorate.

No, what I meant was that you’re an idiot who couldn’t argue his way out of a paper sack.

Sorry I didn’t make that more clear. Somehow, I’m still overestimating you.

Perhaps I am an idiot but I can at least read clear and simple English and I don’t change my opinion to please a crowd.

Anyways, the south of the US has roughly 124,753,948 people. Mexico has a population of 129 mil. If one was to characterize the nation of Mexico the way the southern region is characterized would that be tolerated?

You folks have a serious blind spot for extraordinarily derogatory speech at large groups of folks as long as the group isn’t a group you have affinity for. In elections, Trump’s wife and ex wife were referred to with no comment at all as prostitutes. Good luck escaping notice and sanction if a prominent Democratic woman or spouse of a Democrat were referred to as such.

Now, it’s clearly impossible to prove what folks don’t want to see. That’s fine. I don’t need to prove anything to communicate what I want communicated.

Or when facts show you to be dead wrong. Not a positive characteristic.

The Right would not only tolerate it, but might elect you president.

Bullshit. You are blaming everyone on the left for what one person said. Therefore you, personally, are responsible for every shitty thing Trump has ever said. Fair?

You are communicating that you are full of shit. That message is coming through clearly.

Ha! I actually agree with LHoD’s criticism of the OP, and I’ve criticized such broad-brushing from the left many times on this board (which you always seem to conveniently forget). I’ve also been critical of misogynistic language used against conservative women (such as against Al Franken’s accuser).

I’m piling onto you here because your shtick is so lazy, one-note, and repetitive – you’re a hive of one, buzzing over and over again with thought-free nonsense criticism of the board, never actually taking the effort to be specific, while interesting (and non-interesting) discussions and disagreements are going on all around you. The board is far from perfect, but your criticism is lazy, non-specific, uninteresting, and entirely useless. If you want to improve the board, be a better poster and actually put effort and thought into your posts.

I pit people who are ignorant enough to stereotype entire populations with one broad brush stroke. Yeah it’s easier that way, but it isn’t correct.

Take a look at the popular vote map from the 2016 Cliton Vs. Trump election. There’s a lot of light red and blue in the South isn’t there?

The South isn’t for everyone. Don’t let the door hit ya in the ass.

That’s exactly what he’s doing. So I suppose he won’t have any objection to me doing the same thing. Ahem:

Accepting money to hold elective office as a Republican; holding elective office as a Republican; encouraging voters to put a Republican in elective office; and voting to put a Republican in elective office; these activities are all crimes against decency, and render their perpetrators beneath contempt.

Whew! Feels pretty good! I guess I can grok how octopus can derive gratification from it.

Killjoy.

I haven’t yet seen you trying the strategy of “not being factually wrong.” Think that might help?

I apologized for the OP earlier in this thread but I don’t know that everyone saw that, especially those who have only begun reading the post. I was pitting the South broadly as a region, not all, or even a great majority, of southerners. The are plenty of them, millions of them, who are not like the people I “quoted” in the OP. And plenty of people in other states who are. The OP was an over-the-top pissed off rant after a discussion on a Facebook page devoted to my hometown, and I didn’t think I would be taken seriously when I said the South should secede. The only ones who really want that are the boogalooers, who I referenced.
But why would readers here know that, no one here knows me personally and it’s like I have made 10,000 posts for people to know me that way. In today’s political climate you have to be very careful about what you say and I was not. But I am not a northern hippie liberal who knows nothing about the south, I spent the first 30 years of my life there.

Regarding my comments about followers of Jesus, I was born in southwest Virginia and was brought up in a Baptist church. When I was about 10 I got saved. And I knew a lot of hypocritcal “Christians” and saw people like Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson on TV and eventually left the church. But not everyone in the church is like Falwell. She is kind and loving and generous and forgiving, just like Jesus said his followers should be, and I know others in her church who are like that.

If I could go back and delete or even edit the OP I would, but I can’t. I can only say I am sorry about it.

Yeah, one of the things I trot out when the Texas-bashing starts is this:

If you add up 2016 votes for Hillary Clinton from Vermont, Maine, Delaware, Rhode Island, Hawaii, DC, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Nevada, and Connecticut–all places where she won–you get about the same number of votes as she got in Texas. More people voted for Clinton in Texas than did in Illinois.

We’re fighting against systemic disadvantages down here, and blanket insults aimed at the state or the region do not help us.

If we’re pitting the South broadly as a region, I’ll chime in: I hear the humidity sucks!

Not bad in Virginia but I’ll be in Miami in July. My company has an apartment where I can stay, have a feeling we’ll be spending the daylight hours on the balcony with the door open and the A/C blowing out.

Not bad in Virginia? You must have avoided Richmond.

/atmb/ Amen - I couldn’t have said it better. DNFTT, especially in the pit, isn’t something I put too much stock in. Pick your battles, I guess, for the chortle-worts. /atmb/

Nope.

Ringo was the well-spring, the true origin, the genesis from which it came forth, like some orgiastic Terence Mallick-like explosion of primordial magma or something.

Check your spelling.
