Yeah, I’m on board with pitting the Taliban. Both the ones who try to kill little girls, and the ones cowering in civilian populations, knowing that no matter what we do, they win. We drone strike, then innocent people die with them. If we don’t drone strike, they live, and go on to kill innocent people.
And even though they think they kill too many innocents, 40% of them STILL approve of the strikes. I’m not saying killing innocents is good. I’m saying in this case, it is a net positive.
If they’re capable of tracking him if he goes into hiding, then yes it’s a good tactic. But if 6 cars leave the compound he’s in and head in different directions, what’re you going to do?

If it weren’t for the civilian casuaty rates, I’d continue to support drone strikes. However, I do support highly trained assassination squads & bounties for Taliban heads. I don’t mean leaders (tho they would earn the highest bounties)- I mean actual heads.

I pit the Taliban too. Unless they get a pro sports team who happen to be playing the NY Yankees, the New Jersey Devils, the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Atlanta Braves or the Oklahoma City Thunder. Then I’ll don a turban, flash a sword and say all things common to the 5th or 6th century.

I wonder how loyal a target’s friends and family would be if the bounty were equal to the cost of one drone missile + 2% of the cost of a drone, in addition to not getting their asses blown up. Not everyone would play along, but I have to think the confirmed kill rate would be at least close to what we’re currently achieving.
We tried that before and ended up with a bunch of random nobodies sitting in Guantanamo for three years.
Gitmo always was the flaw in that system. I prefer our new system where we accidentally drop them from a helicopter a few dozen miles out to sea. No prisoners = no human rights violations.
