I hope this person gets banned from the program for life.
Someone on the message board said they got a Toys for Tots item that scared one of her kids, so she gave it to a friend whose child had requested that item. I’m OK with something like that.
One of my all-time favorite episodes of television was a Christmas-themed MASH episode. In this one, Major Winchester gives a box of fancy chocolates to the local orphanage. Later, he finds the same box for sale on the black market, and is outraged. He tracks down the guy who runs the orphanage, and unloads on him. Until the guy tells him that he the money he got for that little box of chocolates let him buy enough cabbage to feed the orphanage for a month.
Is this story anything like that? I don’t know. Probably not. It’s probably just your garden variety shitty person, doing shitty things for shitty reasons. But maybe just for today, just for Christmas Eve, I’d like to think that whoever did that, did it out of genuine need, and not just because they’re a selfish, lazy prick.
I think that about 1% of the population are users. You know, the sort that take advantage of everything. Wait, the word is “spoilers”. There really aren’t a lot of them, but they stand out in our minds.
From what I know about Toys for Tots (and I still hang out with Marines), they don’t just give one toy to one kid. They give lots of stuff to all the kids and try to match it up. Sometimes they don’t get it just right…and everyone knows that if a child wants a Happy Rainbow Flying Unicorn with Pink Ribbons, the one with the purple ribbons just won’t be the same.
The person selling the toy was only selling one toy, not all of them. I really can’t see why this is a big thing, buying things for strangers is always iffy because they might not like what I like. Their kids might not like what I think is cute. Sell it, give it away, I don’t care.
