I Pit this US Marine.

After cutting off the driver repeatedly, his car gets hit. And, here’s the result.

A Camp Pendleton Marine sergeant unloaded on a motorist Monday, and the entire incident was caught on camera.

The two victims of the road rage incident claim the Marine cut them off, then repeatedly slammed on his brakes, causing them to rear-end his vehicle. As seen in the below video, the Marine proceeds to exit his vehicle, then incessantly kicks the motorist’s door and yells obscenities at the him and the female passenger. Though the Purple Heart recipient continuously orders the driver out of his car, challenging him to a brawl, the driver remains inside the vehicle during the ordeal.

The woman filming is a wounded Marine paralyzed from the waist down, says 10News. The driver is her brother and caregiver. Both victims claim to be traumatized from the experience and have asked that their identities be concealed.

San Diego 6 reports that the Marine was detained after the incident, and his name was being withheld until formal charges were made. A Camp Pendleton spokesperson said the man was detained and cited for communicating threats. Friends of the Marine says the man suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder.

Nice.:dubious: Get off the road, dickwad. And surrender your license. And get some help. Oh- and surrender your firearm. Not the Marines’ proudest moment. Oh- and someone tell me why a Marine’s name isn’t given even though he clearly committed a few crimes on the street. Were it a civilian, his name would be a matter of public record.

Not seeing anything worthy of a pitting. Yeah, road rage, bad.

But let’s just stop with the “you were caught on video having a bad moment, YOUR LIFE IS DESTROYED!” mentality.
He raised his voice? Take away his gun? Give out his name? HELL, dishonorable discharge and lets cut his fucking balls off in public. He shall live on the street in a box for this terrible crime.

CNN coverage of the details.

Then again, Zebra is right. We should give the fucker a medal. He rightfully defended his base from infidel…uh…oh wait, he attacked a car with a disabled MARINE in it. Hmm… how do we spin that so he comes out the hero?

I’ve got a neato idea. How about if we hold him to exactly the same legal code that all other Americans are held to. Arrest him, use the eyewitness accounts and video proof and prosecute him. Let a jury of regular Americans decide if he’s guilty of violating any laws.

I gather from the video and from the CNN story that this took place on a military base (Camp Pendleton), but I’m not clear on whether or not state and local municipal laws apply. Are military bases their own little federally sovereign lands or something?

He was threatening to kill people.

US military bases in the US are federal reservations. Unsurprisingly, the military members on the base are subject to US military law. Civilians on the base are subject to federal law and “administrative measures” (such as being banned from the base).

Oh, I forgot something. Civiliians and even the military members are also subject to state law. It’s not that different from any other instance where there are multiple authorities with jurisdiction over an offense.

It didn’t look like they were on a base. Too much traffic and what appeared to be a strip mall across the street. But I’m going to guess they were close by (to a big base) since several other Marines showed up within a few minutes. I have to wonder if they just happened to be driving by and saw the commotion.

I, too, am against people who cause traffic accidents. There, I said it.

Don’t really care if he’s a Marine or not.

A number of the larger bases have actual highways, both US Routes and Interstates, running through them. Also, for a lot of bases now, the Exchange (like a department store) and the Commissary (grocery store) is in a strip mall with various concessionaires and a food court.

The linked articles state that the incident happened at Camp Pendleton. That’s on the base.

How about we do that.

No, you want to try him via the internet. You have no idea if he did cut those people off. You just take their word. He said they had damaged his car but, fuck him, he had emotions. Scary ones! Awww did you get some stains in your undies?
Did you see his pecs? He could have broken that window if he was the raving maniac you want to make him out to be.

In other words, take your recreational outrage and shove it. The world is a messy place and sometimes people get yelled at. I dared to raise my voice to some people who were stealing from me, and I was painted as the bad guy because I yelled.
I never said to give him a fucking medal or a free pass. But Each and every person who yells does not need to get your fucking permission to do so and your judgement against them means JACK SHIT.

Ah, didn’t know that. The bases around here (only one now) are very heavily guarded. Multiple armed guards at the entrance and civilians don’t get on the base unless they’re on the list. It’s kind of a PITA when someone forgets to put your name on the list. It might make a difference that it’s an Air Force base and it’s on airport grounds.
There’s also really not many reasons for civilians to be on the base. If you’re there, you’re there for a very specific reason (delivering something, outside contract work etc).

Looks like the drivers sort of know each other. Maybe there’s some background details we don’t know about yet?

You appear to have not heard the actual words he was yelling. Or, if you heard them, you seem to have chosen to ignore them.

Either way, you are coming across as a huge douchebag apologist.

Seriously, this is the sum total of what you see here? Somebody getting yelled at?

Some people commenting in another article on this said they think the guy is suffering from PTSD. I wonder if anything will be released about that.

He’d probably be vastly better off if this was handled by state authorities than military authorities since in a military court he has fewer rights and the judgements are usually vastly harsher.

That is especially true for anyone who embarrassed the Corps.

Care to elaborate on how someone in a court-martial has fewer rights than in a civilian court?

I’m certainly not going to defend the guy’s repulsive behavior and I don’t want to take away from your groundbreaking and exceedingly brave stance against road rage but I just wanted to touch on this part I’ve quoted.

The Department of Veterans Affairs is famously effed up right now and in unconscionable backlog of paperwork so the guy may very well be trying to get help from the government and is being left hanging out to dry with his PTSD and other issues.

The whole thing makes me sad for all involved. I hate that he put those people through that frightening situation and I’m glad that no one was physically hurt. But starting a thread pitting him seems like shooting fish in a barrel and patting yourself on the back smugly for your moral high ground of being a Straight Dope RO champ-peen. You were way more interesting when you had a meltdown because ol One Balled Lance broke your heart with his evil doping ways.
