Step 1: Be in the midst of enjoying game. In fact, be winning!
Step 2: Get cut from server.
Step 3: Try to get back on–but notice that “room” is now full. That means you lost your seat! Too fuckin’ bad!
Step 4: Lose game and have rating go down.
Yahoo games–same interface as 1998 when I started playing. Annoying messages (“invitation declined,” etc.) that clutter up the screen and provide no information. Servers are better than they used to be, but today twice I have been booted and had my chess rating go down. It’s ridiculous. There is no need for a million rooms, either. One big room for beginner, intermediate, and advanced would be fine.
I play on-line mahjong, too, and though sometimes I get booted, I can always get right back in the game.
Yahoo, really, it’s time to get serious and upgrade the games. Thanks.
Dude www.shove-it.com !
Step 1: Be in the midst of enjoying game. In fact, be winning!
Step 2: Get cut from server.
Step 3: Immediately hit shove-it in your favorites, return to the same lounge and click ‘yes’ to rejoin your game still in progress
Step 4: Win and enjoy watching your meaningless rating go up!
That happens a lot in the card games. I try to go into rooms with less than 150 or 160 people, I find I get booted from the room a lot less frequently.
What really gets me about yahoo is the rage and rudeness. One bad hand and often your partner starts swearing at you. Sometimes they throw the game on purpose to screw you because, after all, it’s your fault. For some reason I think that happens a lot less in the chess games, though.
But that’s half the fun of online games, surely! I know that one sort of person - ie me - wants to play checkers at 5am, but come take a look at some of the other sorts of people! One guy thinks I’m his mother!
Also, you know that trick where you play multiple (even numbered) games of chess at once, by playing them all against each other? Can you do that on Yahoo? Would there be any point or does the trick only make sense if you’re playing a roomful or grandmasters?
Yes, I know it’s designed to impress, and I know I’m only cheating myself, but I still want to try it.
Hmm, I’ve been using it so long I forget if I ever saw any info like that, but now that I’ve looked, you’re quite right.
The techie term is “I haven’t a fricking clue” I think, it’s just a back door that allows folks to get in whichever lounge they choose. Didn’tcha ever wonder why/how a lounge could show as ‘full/closed’ with 180 players and another have 242 in it? It’s cuz they sneak in!
