I pit you day shift! All of YOU

I work night shift (7 pm to 7am) at a nursing home. There has been an ongoing fight between the night and day shifts since I started, and I vowed to not get into it because it is quite childish. But Thursday I offically threw down the guantlet. I get there at 6:30 pm, (unlike my relief who never shows up till ten minutes after I am supoosed to be home in bed), and sign in on my hall. I imediatly see several thing things are not done, but I don’t say anything, thinking that day shift is still working on it. Nope, the are sitting behind the nurses station doing nothing. I begin to start my own duties. 7 rolls around and they get up to leave. I am fed up at this point, mainly because my partner and I never leave anything undone. I corner an aide and jump her ass. Asking politly has not been working, so hell maybe a good ass chewing will. She becomes quite angry, but does a thing or two to appease me. On her way out the door she tells me she wasn’t done with her job because I had not, and never do finish my job in the mornings. Ok bitch it is 7 pm, if I left something undone at 7 am what does that have to do with right now? And I didn’t leave anything for her. She is still mouthing about this! Even after being told by several dept. heads and nurses that I WAS RIGHT. After all was said and done, this woman even lied about what I said and what she did, luckly they believ me because fighting can get you suspended. Yet,she is fairly new, and was trained by a total moron so I guess I should give her some slack. But she has been told and told, she just won’t get up off her lazy ass and WORK.

This on top of night shift being blamed for everything. It can happen at noon, but night shift will get memo about how it was our fault.

Now I feel like a jackass for letting myself get wrapped up into this stupid back and forth crap, but damn DO YOUR JOB. Is it really that hard?

Yes. That is, it’s hard to do your job, and a lot easier to NOT do it if nobody is making you do it, and it sounds like your management is not making day shift do what they are supposed to do. Are you sure you and management have the same idea about what day shift is supposed to do? If you do, and day shift is still not doing it, I would document the hell out of it and present it to management, and see what they do about it.

Where I work the documentation gets put in the garbage.

Nobody gets into real trouble, if they fire you the hire you right back …etc.

They will agree and nod all day long but in the end there isn’t a dept. head that will stand up and do something. *Sigh

<shrug>

Quit. Get a new job in a place where the management and the other employees aren’t pieces of shit.

Yeah, just go on down to the Job Store, and pick yourself out a nice shiny new one. Easy as pie.

I once worked in the kitchen of a nursing home, everyone did their jobs except for one guy. It was the night shift’s job to set up tomorrows breakfasts, so all you had to do was milk and sugar them in the morning, and you’re good to go. And he never did it. You only have an hour before breakfast, and you have a multitude of other things to set up, and it would really fuck things up.
I don’t think he mopped the floor once when he was on his shift either.

Having been gainfully unemployed for all but one of the last 21 years of my life, I really don’t see what the big deal is. This is America: money practically floats out of the sky into your hand here, if you just make some effort.

I’m not saying the OP isn’t making an effort. Now Fear Itself, well… if you can’t be bothered to make the effort to stick your fucking hand out to catch some of the money, that’s your tough shit. All I’m saying is: if you don’t like your life, or job, or relationship, or anything else, make some kind of effort to change it. It’s not that hard.

So anyone who can’t find a cush job paying easy money, much less a crap job to make ends meet, is just fucking lazy. Got it.

No, you don’t get it. That isn’t what I said. It may be, tho, that you are lazy and have a bad attitude to boot. And I haven’t had a job in more than 11 years, and I’m doing fine financially. (FTR, my one job lasted exactly a year to the day, from March 11, 1984 - March 10, 1985.)

Perhaps you should petition the mods to allow you to change your name to Frustration Itself.

And in case you didn’t notice, mrald already has a (seemingly crap) job; I was merely pointing out that he didn’t have to stay there if he didn’t want to.

Not that easy. I am in college and working on a new carrer, but I am working the best paying job in my small 2000 population town that I can get right now. I try everyday, I will try when I go back. But it gets old feeling like you are the only one trying. We are taking care of old people for cripes sake.

Yeah it is. You said anyone in America who couldn’t catch money falling out of the sky is just not making an effort. I see no other interpretation.

I don’t see where you would get that from. I am self employed and doing quite well, thank you. That I recognize that many people find it difficult to just leave one job and find another apparently makes me a target for your contempt. Perhaps this is an issue you should discuss with your therapist.

mrald, glad to hear that you are just doing this while you go to school.

Fear Itself, go somewhere else and pick a fight. Jackass.

It’s weird where I work. I’m on afternoon shift. If there’s work left over, we’ll think, “Looks like the poor guys on the morning shift hadtoo much to do.” But when we have too much to do and leave some, the night shift say, “Those lazy afternoon shift people didn’t do their work.”

They’ve complained about us every single day for years, even though we might clear forty containers of mail (I’m a postal worker  ), and forty is a solid shift of hard work, and then fifteen minutes before we are due to be reieved by the night shift, two semi trailers come in a dump another forty. Night shift blame us for that. We should have done it.

Night shift are pricks.

Yet that is it here except exact opposite.

Snowboarder Bo Thanks. Yep, in about a year or two I will be an RN and I will be able to write these jokers up and push the issue.

Well, hopefully not in this same place I am outta there as soon as I can do so.

I was thinking that if you’re willing to work night shift at a nursing home, you can practically write your own ticket, but I guess not so much in a town of 2000. Well, you’re doing it for a reason, and you’ve got a plan, so I guess sucking it up and coming here to pit occasionally is about as good as it’s gonna get.

I have a lot of issues with driving in Calgary, but I’m working on not letting them bother me. I guess you can treat the issues with your job the same way - use them as practice for your personal growth in learning how to not let things bother you.

Good luck, good idea.

So, Snowboarder Bo, since you are so proudly tooting your horn here, why don’t you share with us what exactly it is that you do?

Or don’t do, as the case may be. I’m guessing it involves a trust fund and/or a large inheritance.

Hmmm, maybe not. From here.

Makes you see some of his opinions in this thread in a different light, doesn’t it?

If he hasn’t had a job in 11 years, how come he enjoys it so much? Does he sit around reminiscing 80-90% of the time, or what?
