It’s absolutely jaw-droppingly amazing and beautiful. I’ve never seen a video game with such a sense of space - it honestly makes Vice City or San Andreas feel like the Pac Man maze by comparison. The draw distances are truly a revelation - galloping across the savannah toward a castle, you can see the damned thing for 10+ minutes as you approach it, gradually getting larger and clearer until you’re there and it’s towering over you like the empire state building. I just can’t get over how truly beautiful the game is - it’s so real and alive.
The first time you encounter a colossus, it’s really that impressive, even having seen the videos and so on. When that first foot drops next to you like it’s Godzilla’s and the controller gives a healthy thudding rumble, you’re just sucked in.
Those that have complained that the game is nothing but those boss battles and a whole bunch of nothing, you truly cannot comprehend what an awe-inspiring and wonderful emptiness it is - it’s a living, breathing world that is simply unprecedented in any previous gaming experience.
SO, the short version is: it has a very pretty background? Does it have quests, or just running and killing? That can be very fun (cough Diablo cough), but may be a bit lacking. How does it play?
I’ve seen the preview movie and I can’t wait for it to come out. How close a sequel to Ico is it? What have they done with the controls? Did they use the friction gauge in the end or is there no screen furniture, as there was with ICO?
<Ahem> sorry, please excuse the mad fangirl…
Seriously how did you get to play it before its release, and what is it like?
Oooh, I am sick with envy. Ico is without a doubt my favourite game ever, so I am really looking forward to this.
I was afraid it was going to be a major let-down so hearing this really makes my day.
There’s a pretty expansive demo on the disc that comes with this month’s Official U.S. Playstation Magazine - I didn’t mean to give the impression that I was some sort of “industry insider” or something.
The game is really not a sequel to Ico in any sense other than that they share a similar aesthetic and look.
There is literally nothing in the game but galloping around on your horse, exploring, and taking down the 16 different Colossi. But people don’t understand that there doesn’t NEED to be anything else in the game when you see how beautiful and vibrant the world is.
