Nothing yet. I did get a phone call just a minute ago from a recruiting agency though. Anyway, it’s only been a day. I expect the headhunters to be breaking down my door any minute now. I better get dressed.
It is because of this that I humbly request you do whatever magic spells, superstitions, voodoo, or other mischief is required to get me a good job.
Do it for the children.
I’m also soliciting feedback on my long, incredibally beautiful resume. Note that certain things appear slightly odd, like volunteer and hobby experience all under one big “experience” category, but that’s because it’s the way monster.com does things.
friedo, you may want to check with some not-for-profits in addition to technology companies. Colleges and universities are a good bet for needing technology folk – maybe even check RIT. Good webmasters are an important function.
Connor, you sure that’s a typo? It’s makes it sound kind of kinky.
Oh, and in your experiences, you are inconsistent with punctuation - sometimes you use it, sometimes you don’t. Pick a side, preferable on the “use it” side. Other than that, lookin’ good!
Have you tried The Tiger Job Connection yet? Your best bet for a co-op is to check out the listings from Tiger Jobs. All the listings are specifically for co-ops, and that makes life a lot easier. When you start messing around with headhunters and other places like Monster, it can get really messy. Trust me, I know from experience. I had some trouble finding my first co-op, so I resorted to using those companies. I got sent on a couple interviews, and the people didn’t know till I got there that I was still in school and only looking for a co-op. Makes for a very uncomfortable setting. If you are desperate, go that route, but there are tons of good co-ops through Tiger Jobs, not to mention much less confusion. If you need any other help, lemme know.
I have two resumes on monster.com right now, and the first week they went up I got an e-mail about each. Then nothing for months now. But that’s okay, 'cause I’m not legal to work at the moment.
Good luck, and may the god of job hunters give a mild electric jolt to anyone reading your resume, so that they’ll jump up and say, “That’s the one!”.
I think the main problem with your resume is all those XXX’s in there for the phone numbers. Why not just put 555 at the front of it and guarantee that you won’t be called.
I do like your address though, must have been a fun place growing up.
It’s a minor nitpick, but we’ve not yet reached the year 2003. Don’t worry, I sometimes confuse dates myself. Just yesterday I thought I was a knight slaying pagans during the Dark Ages. Actually, it was just a slow time during work.
One thing I found about Monster during my great resume blitz of 1999 – make a change to your resume every day or so and then re-submit. The change can be something as small as adding or deleting a comma. But if you edit your resume, it bumps it back to the top. Worked for me.
Enderw23, seeing as how he’s applying for internships, I would imagine that he hasn’t graduated yet (as indicated by the “not yet complete” tag), and that is his expected date of graduation.
And if you put 555 in, that would be lying. If you put XXX in, its making it apparant that he doesn’t want people calling his home.
You are correct about the not-yet-complete thing. The modified address and phone number is just on thaat version of the resume, which any vagrant who lurks in the dark corners of the SDMB can see. The monster.com copy has the actual phone numbers and addresses in it.
Highly advisable. I took out all references to my address and phone number on my own CV, then posted it to my site (http://www.fervent.co.uk/).
I wouldn’t hold you breath for too many responses. I had a CV on Monster, JobWorld, JobLoop, StepStone and a couple of others and apart from generic junk mail never received much (whereas I had quite a few interviews the old-fashioned way).
I have my resume posted on monster, as well as hotjobs, jobs.net, jobstar, and at least 6 or 7 others, most of those local. I got GREAT responses from the local job banks, not a single bite from the larger ones. Do a search, see if your area has a local job bank.
When I posted my resume on monster (last November) I got like 100 calls in the first week. Some coming as early as 7 hours later (I posted at about 1AM, calls starting coming in about 8AM). About 80 or so were headhunters, but there were some big companies like Dell and Intel calling as well. One thing I did different then your resume was that I put willing to relocate on it. Maybe that is the key.
