I ran my first 5K Race today! Pics!

You may remember this thread.

So I’d like to personally extend my thanks to Contrary for suggesting the C25K Running Program. It’s amazing, and I’ve become a total addict. I’ve lost somewhere in the neighborhood of 7-10 lbs since I started just a couple of months ago, and my heart couldn’t be happier.

Today was my first race ever, the Tortoise and the Hare 5K. For the curious among you, I played the role of the Tortoise. My goal was to run the whole way through and also to not finish last.

Well, I achieved both of those goals. We got passed by an old man wheezing from asthma, a lady twice my size, and several small children, but damn it, we did NOT come in last!

Actually, I’m on top of the world. What looks like a slow finishing time – 42:05 – is not slow at all you see, because I just beat my personal PR for pace, at any distance EVER, by two minutes.

Seriously, I was booking! For me, I mean.

4th of July is my favorite holiday of all time, and now I have even more reason to love it. It’s a beautiful day and I can do anything at all I want without feeling lazy because I got up at 6 in the freaking morning to run 3.1 miles and I ENJOYED it so eat that, suckers!!!

Oh yeah, and did I mention the free t-shirt? My life rocks so hard.

Here are some pictures to prove I actually did this:

Done.

No, really, I’m DONE!

Ok thank you for letting me share. I hope you all enjoy your 4th of July!

Congratulations! That’s wonderful. And I think you look pretty good in your after pictures.

Yay you guys! I love that you’re pursuing these interests together, it may just make you the cutest couple in the entire world.

Way to go on making both your goals and besting your own record in the same day, chica.

Woot! Yay for meeting goals! Congrats!

Go You!!!

Good work! My boyfriend runs, but I just can’t talk myself into joining him. So I watch TV while riding my stationary bike. It’s progress, but I wish I had your motivation!

Great job.
Now, time for a rest…then start training for the next one!
I kid, I kid.
Aren’t races fun?

Congratulations on the Personal Best time!
