Hello everyone. I know some of you have seen me before around here. It seems that most if not close to all of the members of this site happen to be mature, and forgive me, older. I am only 17 years old and I’d like to see how many other younger members there are. But I’d also like to be cool with all of the members. And to let everyone know, I actually am intelligent, so I’m hoping I won’t be thought of as an “uneducated in the real world” teen. I don’t know why exactly I had to write this; I felt it needed to be written. I’ll probably be asking for a lot of advice b/c I honestly feel I can’t talk to my parents or most of my friends about my personal life. My dad would not understand the life I live and he would frown upon it terribly b/c he is one of those old-school parents who are incredibly strict. So, now you have the information. Do what you please with it. Thanx for reading.
Well I’m 35, thick as pig-shit and twice as stinky.
Welcome to the boards.
That’s most likely true, but for the life of me I don’t specifically remember seeing you before, so it’s as if we are meeting for the first time.
Quite a few. See the thread Teenage Dopers for more information.
I think you’re speaking about two different concepts here – “intelligence” (whatever it means) and life experience. Many 17-year-olds are quite intelligent. However, due to their few years, it’s usually not reasonable to expect that a 17-year-old would have the same life experience as, say, a 50-year-old. That isn’t to say that they haven’t, but in general the 50-year-old has had a wider variety of life experiences than the 17-year-old.
Both are welcome! (Well, I hope so anyway – I lean towards the younger end of the spectrum myself!)
That’s why I write a lot of what I post here. My other main reason is to inflate my own ego, which is a wonderful reason for posting, IMO!
<Obligatory unsolicited “older than a teenager” advice> Have you tried talking to him about your life? How did it go? </obligatory unsolicited advice>
Asking for advice is generally fine, just be cautious about what you say and be kindly about it would be my advice!
Thanks! I think I’ll print up your post in giant letters and hang it over the streets of this town. How’s that?
No, thank you for giving me the opportunity to spend 45 minutes of my life attempting to compose a suitable reply to this post. Have a great day!
Hey, blu! I’m 17 too. I can relate to what you’re saying. I’ve been here for almost a year and a half, and this board is a great place. I come here for advice, to give others advice, to share new discoveries and ask questions.
I post here fairly often and I’m sure many people have seen my posts. I think I do a fair job of contributing interesting things to this message board. True, I can be whiny and bratty and stubborn, but hey who isn’t? And I’m not just talking about teenagers, either!
For the most part, I consider myself a fairly mature person. I’m more mature than the majority of my friends. But I have my monents, if you know what I mean. But one thing that I love most about the SDMB is this: Almost everyone that posts here is young at heart. I’m often suprised when peopel reveal their true age.
Hello, Bluforever1. Just a suggestion, if you ever go down to the pit, don’t use abbreviations like b/c or thanx- Some posters will take it up on themselves to attack you for any sort of mispellings/shortenings of words. I don’t mind though. Just a heads up
Anyway, I reckon I am one of the more active teen posters at 14 years old and 7 posts per day. You’ll find that most people will respect you as much as an older person if you act mature, because after all they can’t tell how old you are from your posts unless you explicitly state it. Many people thought I was much older than I am, which was nice.
You’ll find a lot of good advice here, with plenty of people from different walks of life and people that have experinced similar things to you. You may find posters who will eventually be friends, and perhaps go to a dopefest! The people on here helphed me thru a lot of my troubles, and I am sure they’ll do the same with you.
Good luck.
