And thank you for the offer but, other than pictures, I didn’t get a chance to see her or Dad since they came to visit in 2004. There was a family reunion in my sister’s house around the corner from them that Christmas but but by, the time I figured out how to pay for the trip, I could only stay two nights at the most. Dad did start keeping everyone abreast of developments in their lives with newsletters every month or so.
Mom and Dad were married 15 September 1947. Dad turned 85 two weeks ago; Mom would have been 83 in January. He was initially afraid she would outlive him because his side of the family isn’t exactly known for longevity.
Sounds like there will be a memorial service sometime around Christmas. I should be able to make it down there for that; I had already scheduled for two weeks off for a trip in the opposite direction but never made reservations.
Recently came across a photo Dad took of the Lincoln Memorial during this trip. On the back, Mom wrote the date and the inscription that’s on the wall above Lincoln.
I lost Pops last January due to COPD. Makes it too hard to post to threads like these just yet. But I had to this time because that was so sweet and beautiful. I’m so sorry for your loss. Sorry to all the other Dopers who have lost their parents this year, too.
Sorry for your loss Skywatcher. I remember the things my mom did all the time, and it will be eight years this year. I can tell your mom was just as memorable, and my heart goes out to you at this time.
