I replaced my mouse and keyboard yesterday.

I’m gone ruined. I mean, this is really, really disturbing. After having the same mouse and keyboard since I started college in late August 2000, I was so happy and used to my equipment.

Now, there’s this pair of strangers sitting in front of me. Mr. Mouse has a scroll wheel that’s going to prevent me from hitting the middle button at inopportune times, such as when I’m playing Diablo II and accidentally turn off my automap. Also, his left button functions reliably and doesn’t stick.

Mr. Keyboard is just bizarre. For some reason, ALL of the keys have letters on them, even M, E and L. My old keyboard did not have these letters, at least after the first year.

Mr. Keyboard does not have fingernail grooves in the lowest row of keys from the way that I hit that row with the very tips of my fingers. The keys are not sticky from all of the coffee spills. The spacebar does not insert spaces at inappropriate spots if I breathe on it wrong.

Mr. Keyboard does not even have a convenient worn-away dent in the spacebar where I hit it with the side of my thumb. This is most disturbing, as I was just getting used to that.

These strangers scare me.

They seem to be quite upstanding fellows. The coffee stain thing, though… I’d keep my eye on them, just in case.

I have gone through uncounted numbers of keyboards. To be fair to me, I’m on my 7th home computer now, but still…

I have lost keyboards to:
soda spills
beer spills
buildup of cigarette ash (basically killed them through second-hand smoke)
cat vomit
squirrel urine (I swear!)
