what’s your resolution this new year?
First! It’s good to be juvenile!
Not getting along with the board this morning. Had to do a second post. My resolution is to not think of a former student’s parent as an a**hole when I see him out in public. Trying to get back to the kindness that I try to preach.
Good news, the hearing aids were not double charged.
Bad news, I’ve got a sore throat, runny nose, and congested chest this morning à la Covid.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 4c/39f with a predicted high of 5c/41f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “Oh, Mrs Sun. Please show the fuck up, you twit.”
I don’t make resolutions, I see no point in setting myself up for disappointment ![]()
That is good news, one less thing to panic about. Sorry to hear about the ick though, I hope you feel better soon. Annie will be along to provide soothing cuddles, I’m sure.
I have no big plans for today, I’m off work until Friday so my time is my own. I have to get started on a job application today as the closing date is 1st Jan so I need to get on with that. I might go to the gym, and we ought to go shopping as we need some essentials for the rest of the week. I’m making dinner tonight, we’re having roast smoked gammon with roast potatoes, Yorkshire puds, stuffing and veggies. Just because we can. Other than that, I have no plans aside from drinking tea.
Now for my usual mornin’ drivel.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 60 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 63 and cloudy. Tomorrow’s high will be in the 40s. Weather be weird. We shall procure provisions this mornin’ as we need stuff for the big NYD feast. Six people are showin’ up Thursday for the traditional feast of beastloaf, collard greens, blackeyed peas, rice, mac ‘n cheese, cornbread and cheesecake with macerated strawberries and real whipped cream. We will pick up fried chikin dinners from the deli for today’s main need to feed just cause we can.
I don’t make resolutions. I am far too lazy to actually carry them out, so why bother.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and bother, I suppose I must purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed.
Happy Moanday Y’all!
Another early morning train departure. Not quite a blizzard out there but white knuckle driving for sure. Power outages noted on our way westward.
Home to another inch of white, and the lights are still on here, yay!
I resolve to eat less move more. But for now I’m snuggled under covers in bed.
Mornin’
I never bother with New Year resolutions- if I attempt any, it’s from my birthday instead, which is February so spring is in sight. I always feel a bit more like doing stuff then; right now it’s basically hibernation season.
Jobs for the day include locking the stable door, AKA putting at least the doorbell camera up. I do have a second camera II’m planning on putting up on the wall covering the drive, polytunnel and the rear entrance, but that involves ladders and a drill, so I may try do it when someone else is around. Pretty sure it was just opportunistic youths- I mean, it looked like they’d gone to steal the warm, waterproof jacket I leave in the car, but then dumped it at the end of the driveway. I guess they noticed the logo, which was from my old job and quite distinctive. That or it didn’t fit. Hardly the work of serious professional thieves either way.
I have a load of gardening stuff I need to do before I have to go back to irk, though I have no more plans for the week, so I should be able to get most of it done, if the sofa doesn’t call too loud.
Count me as another who doesn’t make resolutions at new years. Happy Monday y’all!
It appears Mumpers are not a very resolute bunch - and I am one. We will continue our attempts to eat better and I really do need to investigate exercise programs at the senior center but that’s not so much for the New Year as for the end of holiday treats temptation period and thinking I really should do what my docs have been telling me.
The grandspawn were pests at bedtime - kept coming out for various reasons, but they finally were asleep before 11. Then they were in my room a bit after 5 asking if they could turn their light on because they were afraid of shadows. When I peeked in on them just after 7, they were asleep. Tobias came out about 45 minutes later, so he’s having breakfast and Roxy is asleep still.
Today’s plans include a run to Aldi and (fingers crossed) some playground time. There’s a small chance of rain around noon, then a chance of sun after, with temps around 60 - we’ll see how things develop, but a couple of hours running around may help tonight’s bedtime.
Other than that, no real plans. We’ll see how the day goes.
Happy Moanday!!
It’s Monday! Oh, boy! Outdoors, it’s 15 degrees F, with enough wind to make it “feel like” 3 below zero. Oh, and it’s snowing, too. Not a good day to take your cello outside, or, if you have more than one, celli. Keep those celli inside! Okay, now I’ve shown off my crossword vocabulary, and I’ll try to restrain myself. The local radio guy says we have gusts up to 50mph. Yike!
Mrs. Nott is pondering about whether to cancel her 10:00am haircut. If I were deciding, I’d stay home, but she’s not as wobbly as I am.
11F this morning and that’s as warm as it’s going to get today. The snow storm was fun to watch, but the wind prevented any significant accumulation. Traffic is moving along on I-94, thanks to the snow crew in Minneapolis.
Resolutions? Not really. I’ve finally given in to the fact that sugar is a really bad thing for me and will be avoiding it for the most part. Ditto for chocolate and dairy. All cause serious gastric distress, not to mention aggravating the diabetes, so I plan to avoid them for the most part, at least in their simple forms.
Good morning all. Slept all the way past 7am without the bladder waking me up so I call that a good start for the week. Waiting for a bit post-pillage to have the morning banana. Paid my last bill for the year so my account balances as I budgeted, so can start planning for the next year. And managed to fix my hearing aid (turns out replacing the guard and protection were the key so no visit to the ENT is needed.
On the weather front it’s 35F getting to maybe 40F so the heavier jacket will be coming off the hanger. Should be getting back to the usual weekly routine and we’ll see how the week goes.
Never was much for resolutions, but made one in 2022 to join a gym and did so, then in 2023 I stopped drinking regular sodas and went to diet drinks and in 2024 started counting calories and 2025 began working with weights. 2026 is to try and keep it going and maybe work in other routines or classes, like boo fae does. We’ll see if my resolution can continue.
Sounds like the cold wave is hitting everyone, so stay warm and have a good end of the year.
But, but…what if he is an a**hole?
Feel better soon, tis’ the season to be sickly…don’t I know it…
boo fae, good luck on the job application, IIRC it’s the same place but a bit better pay and working conditions. All appendages crossed for you.
swampy, sounds like your a day behind on the cold front, so you can read your fellow Mumpers notes on what’s heading your way.
Wise moves.
Nut, happy gardening, hopefully in better weather than most of us.
FCM, your another one awaiting the cold, so get your stuff done today if possible,
Knots, that’s some serious winter weather. Hang in there without chilling the celli or the human cells too much.
Cookie, I still have sugar and chocolate in my diet, but in lesser quantities and with some management (found a sugar-free chocolate pudding cup with only 70 calories per cup this year thanks to shoe and that has helped considerably). But none of them cause me gastric distress (yet), so I am sure you’ll find alternatives.
And that’s it for the morning report. On to check the webcomics and see which writers are taking the holidays off. Have a good one all.
Mornin’ all.
It’s 30°F and partly cloudy outside. The expected daytime high is 42°F, and the forecast calls for periods of overcast and partly cloudy skies.
I don’t make New Year’s resolutions. I also no longer do a New Year’s special meal. It’s just my husband and me, and frankly, we’re feeling oversaturated with big meals due to the Christmas dinner and days of leftovers. We’re usually eating my prime rib soup.
Sticky Buns, I’m sorry you’re not feeling well.
BooFae, wishing you success with the job application. I hope it all works out.
I need to get out either today or tomorrow to get the fixings for prime rib soup, but that’s the extent of my plans. I also need to gather the pile of branches and put them in the yard waste bin for pick-up tomorrow. I’ll probably spend an hour or two catching up on trash TV, too.
That’s about all for these parts. Take care of yourselves!
Wind is 33 mph.. Not going out. Cold, snow is doable, not wind.
I do vague resolutions usually along the lines of “be nicer” or “drink more water.” The weather in no. Illinois is horrible. Wind all last night around 20-30 mph. Sleep was very fitful. Still windy and cold. Getting my hair cut and colored this afternoon,
At 0245 we lost power. It is 9f -13c outside. The power company just left and everything is back on. It got down to 58f 14c but the furnace is back on. Those guys from the electric company are Heroes!
Holy moly, I don’t usually check the boards when I’m off work, but I don’t often come back to over a thousand unread posts. So there is a lot of skipped content out there.
My level 2 charger had a power surge last week and burnt out.
Grizzl-e’s warranty will not cover this, I could send it back to them in Ontario for a $100 repair, but due to tarrifs and other related bullshit, that would cost me over $500. Or I could take them up on their 20% discount on new charger and only pay $300. In the meantime, I’m stuck using the level 1 charger and using my EA credits when I hit the Walmart. I expect to have a fully charged car sometime tomorrow.
My resolution is to my my brane sorted out, so it stops freaking out at the stupidest shit. Pants! I started to get anxious about looking at freaking sweatpants a Costco the other day! As the man says, this is some bullshit!
Yeah, it’s very windy today and while it’s nearly 60 Ferrets now, the temp will drop thru the day. Dunno if we’ll be able to go to the playground or not - 2 different weather radars show rain around noon. Oh well, we’ll deal.
We went to Aldi and got everything on my list, plus a little more. The kids are playing with cards now. Maybe I should take them to the playground now before the rain moves in… What I want to do is nap - very broken night because of the kids and Otis. I’s tahred…
I will set writing related goals at a workshop next Sunday. Other than that, i just want to continue being kind.
I resolve to finish my big piece this year. Next year can take care of itself.
I’m sure glad the weather was nice at the capital yesterday because it is miserable today. While I’m willing to stand out there in bad weather, others aren’t and I don’t feel safe alone anymore. Getting arrested will do that to ya.
Hubs’ foot is feeling almost normal already but the antibiotics are causing him a lot of internal distress. I’ve got some whole milk yogurt going and might make a trip to town if he wants something from Walgreens.
Boo, thank you for the most excellent suggestion in last weeks MMP. The woman who left the jewelry findings to me was a very kind and generous person. I think it would please her to know that her they ended up benefiting homeless women.
When I’m in the store, I’ll buy a couple of packages of period supplies and toss them in a box in the closet. When the box is full, I take it to the women’s shelter and have been able to see that they need everything. I’ve left a message for the director so might be making a run out there today.
Otherwise I am going to be baking bread and stitching. Baking bread is a lot like making cheese. Do some things and then set the timer and stitch until the timer goes off.
My bread is improving, but still isn’t something I’d bring to a family get-together. Unless I could be sure that everyone would eat it toasted, it makes great toast.
And…disaster just struck. A plastic part of the litter robot just broke ![]()
We’ve had it for a very long time and it has served us well, but dang.
