Resolved: Happy New MMP 2013!

OK, it’s still Sunday in my time zone, but for some of you, it’s already Monday as I type and others won’t see this until their local Monday, so might as well launch.

Like most people I’m acquainted with, New Year’s Eve tends to be a time to look at the year I’ve had and what I want to change for next year. 2013 will be a challenging one anyway, with DH facing layoff around mid-year.

As usual, I’m hoping to get better organized, better about my spiritual life, etc. Same stuff I tell myself I’ll do every year at this time.

Anyone got any New Year’s resolutions/goals/hopes they want to share, any exciting plans for NYE (DH and I are staying home, off the roads and away from the drunks), or just anything they want to talk about?

1st W00T!

I’ll stay in, too. I hope to have a functional relationship with a certain German lady in 2013.

Yeah, at 8:30.

Sniff.

I am not going to make any resolutions this year, because I just end up failing and getting depressed when I don’t keep them.

As for our plans, it will just be me and the hubs since my mom is visiting tomorrow through Tuesday afternoon and wants to have the kids stay over at her hotel! Yay!!! Maybe we will go see a movie or something.

I’m working New Year’s Eve, so… yay? Anyway, working 1 pm to 9:30 pm means no commute traffic, and I hopefully get to drive home before all the partygoers start driving home drunk.

In the next year, I hope to accomplish the following:

  1. Get hired as a permanent employee. I’m on a 3 month contract-to-hire which started October 1st, so Tuesday should be a big day. However, my various emails to HR have not resulted in much response, although my tumbleweed & cricket collection is a thing to be admired. Still, I remain hopeful.

  2. Move into an apartment. This also involves moving out of Crazy Retired Senile Filipino Lady’s house, which is a good thing. It also involves getting all my stuff out of storage, where it’s been since April. Yay, DVDs! Yay, my bed! Yay, more than the same half-dozen work shirts!

  3. Get medical benefits for the first time since September, 2011. This means a doctor’s appointment, dentist, eye doctor, better glasses, and less tooth pain.

  4. Start taking Shotokan karate classes again. I desperately need the exercise, experience, flexibility and human contact (ironically, not that kind–it’s a non-contact sport). I’ve been here in California for over a year now and have not made any friends aside from co-workers and that’s getting to me.

  5. Take a much more active control over my diet and find something that works for me. See 2., above; I don’t have access to a kitchen where I’m living, and have had limited access since April.

Hell, I hope to get most of these knocked out within the next month, but since they’re all dependent on getting the job, I’ll settle for “any time this year.”

My single New Years Resolution is, as always, to make no New Years Resolutions.

Yay, we could be twinsies!

Triplets!

Today I made my list.
I love to make lists, I have a daily list, a weekly list, a monthly list and an annual list.
So my resolutions are

  1. Eat 5-7 servings of fruits/veggies a day.
  2. Remember to take my vitamins and supplements each day. I was good until I became a guinea pig for a while, then I got out of the habit.
  3. Pay off my truck.
  4. Pay off my other debts.
  5. Exercise everyday.
  6. Meditate everyday.
  7. Get back to my studies.
  8. Get back to working 40 hours a week. I’ve been slacking off.

While not really a NY resolution, find a place to live after my son graduates and get him to get his driver’s license.

Quadruplets.

Well except for one minor one. I just took the roof rack off my car to let it hibernate for the winter. This means I can use the car wash to get the salt off after it snows. But (there’s always a but) my car looks so nekkid now! So, my resolution is to find my car in the parking lot. You know how easy it is with a unique roof rack to make it stand out. It’ll take a few days to get drilled into my brain that I need to remember where I parked instead of just looking for said roof rack. :smack:

As for NYE, nothing, nada, stay in. New Year’s Day, like always is a beach day!!!

I haven’t made resolutions in many many years. I just try to keep some balance in my life. I do have an invite a NYE gathering, and another one to a NYD open house. But I’ll probably stay in just 'cause it’s easier, and my cat would miss me.

Holy shit.
Were I not a happily married man, I should very much like to warm up some of those poor young ladies.

Darn copycats.

Contemptuous Sniff.

Being without electricity for four days, we had to buy another trash can to clean out the refrigerator. Returning from the grocery while Mrs. Plant v.3.0 slaved away at her Dark Satanic Mill, I heard a formidable noise. “Oh G-d”, thought I, “What is broken or leaking* now*?”

It was the refrigerator, running again after four days.

My solution to finding the car is the alarm remote. Mine flashes the lights and makes a sound at me, which makes locating a dark red car (which is about every third or fourth car around here, it seems) a lot easier :D. I call that the “here I am!” feature.

Hubby’s working a 24 hour shift on NYe, so I’ll be watching the fireworks on the Space Needle on TV. One of our traditions has been to go to a fancy hotel downtown that faces the Needle and watch from our room. Last time we did that, the fog rolled in 15 minutes before it started, then, gone 20 minutes after. :frowning:
Instead, we’re going to do the Polar Bear plunge in Lake Washington at noon on NY day.

Resolutions… well, I intend to stay on my diet. I’ve lost 32 lbs in the last 4 months. I’m going to get back into swimming (at the Community Center pool, not Lake Washington.) every day.

Hubby want’s me to help him save money. He’ll be getting an allowance. His debit card goes away. He has no concept of how much he spends on stupid stuff. He wants a vacation in the spring, so allowance it is.

Resolutions? Nope, never bothered with those either. The exclusion period for my severance deal from the university is up at the end of September so I suppose that’s the time I should be thinking about seriously looking for a new job there. I’ve been temping at the uni now for 16 months since I left my full-time permie job, so it’s time to work on getting another proper job instead of being a temp.

Plans for NYE? Staying at home with cocktails and Outpost 2. Nothing like starting the new year with a zombie Nazi army!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffenatin’. YAWN 'Tis 30 degrees Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 60 for the day. Then it’s supposed to cloud up and get rainy for a day or two. We shall see.

I don’t make NY resolutions either so that makes us, ummm… however many of us who don’t make resolutions now.

{{{Spaz}}} from the old MMP. Here’s hopin’ your dad’s prognosis improves over the next two days. A good amount of time that happens. If you’re headed to where he is, be safe.

As far as this evenin’ is concerned, I will be cookin’ collards and black-eyed peas and makin’ a meatloaf so it can set overnight and be cooked tomorrow. There’s champagne in the fridge should we make it to midnight which I doubt will happen. We’re such wild partay animals! I didn’t mention this yestiddy but whilst I was out and about I went ahead and got the ice cream cake. Go Me!

Now I need more caffiene and rumbly tummy wants to be fed. Then, alas, 'tis Monday so irk purtification must commence.

Happy Monday Y’all!

Good morning from the office! Much to do so this will be short.

We haven’t done anything on NYE in years, really. I can’t even remember the last time we stayed awake till midnight! It’s just another day.

And I don’t do resolutions either - just a silly exercise to me and I can’t be bothered. I do think a few of you need to resolve to start an MMP just once this year! :stuck_out_tongue:

Happy Last Day of 2012!!!

Morning. Up, caffeinated, off to irk.

I’m at irk. Blurf. I have to write up a quarterly report and, miraculously, all the info I need is right here to do so. Trust me, this is a shrine worthy miracle.
