I haven’t been to the gym on a weekend in four weeks. (I haven’t been a slacker, I was racing two of the three intervening weeks.) I went on Sunday; it was much less crowded than the last time I was there; open machines, no lines. Then I realized the (New Year’s) Resolutionaries were gone; fell off the wagon (again) I guess. Ahh, good, now I can have a normal gym again.
Pre-hijack question: What (NYR or other) things have you given up on?
Is this a more imaginative title that last week’s MMP?
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 50 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 83 and sunny for the day. Also much pollen. ICK!
Tonight is men’s night over to the church house. Thus, steaks are marinatin’ and beer is chillin’. Always a good time.
Ok, I guess we need a topic, so, y’all got any plans for tonight?
That’s all I got. I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy wants sustenance. Then, alas and alack, 'tis Moanday, so irk purtification must commence at some point.
Plans for tonight? Same as every night, Pinky… um, I mean, nope. Just another evening in paradise. I’m gonna make corned beef and cabbage for supper, because I’m a rebel that way. Plus after mostly foraging junk yesterday, we need a healthy meal.
Our day is starting out at freezing, but we’re looking for middle 60s - I might be able to open some windows for a few hours! I have no laundry to do, only a few dishes to load in the dishwasher, and we all know I won’t dust. I may actually go outside and start raking. Or picking up sticks. Or some kind of yard work. But not till it gets to at least the middle 50s. Till then, well, we shall see.
Two MMPs…where to start? Decisions, decisions! Like Moooom, I don’t bother with resolutions so I have nothing to give up on.
So, it’s another grim and grey Monday in the office, I have a really nasty cough today that just won’t go away so I’m medicating it with lots of cups of tea. Also, I have two days off this week because the roofer should be coming to fix up the back of the house (the flat roof on the kitchen needs a bit of attention) so I’m looking forward to getting that job done.
**BooFae **- I swear, you’ve had more holidays in the past couple of years than I’ve had in my entire life!! We had a stretch of about 10 years where our only vacation consisted of visiting family, and that doesn’t count in my book.
Naturally, now that we’ve got the time, we don’t have the financial means to do all the traveling I’d like to do. So unfair… <silent, woeful sobbing>
I dunno **Mom **I’m happy to visit family. My kids and I go hang out at my parent’s (my place is too small for them to stay with me for the past few years; that will change).
This year I thought about mixing it up and going on a ‘real trip’ with the kids (16 & 15); they vetoed me and we will go down to their grandparent’s again for a few weeks this year.
Of course my parents being in their 80’s and slowing down a bit I think my kids are aware they have to get all the fun and memories out of family while they still can, and I agree. Part of my attempt at ‘no regrets’.
In fact I am taking Friday off and we will go a visiting this weekend; driving lessons for son, everyone helps get the boat ready for the year.

In other news I finally received my ‘new’ company car late last week, a 2013 Ford Explorer with 22k miles on it (effectively new). This was the compromise to get the vehicles we needed on the budget we were given. Spent yesterday installing a scanner and an inverter, and ordered safety lights and a mount for the Jotto Desk. All the things one needs to get work done.
I’m quite excited because for me this is like being given a new corner office. I will work out of this thing daily for the next 5-8 years, so to have it just right is the best.
When our daughter was younger, my inlaws lived in the mountains of western NC. Their house was in the middle of nowhere, so to do anything required a minimum 40-minute drive, often much more. My FIL is a very sweet man, but he’s been hard of hearing as long as I’ve known him, which means the TV is always TURNED UP!!! That makes conversation close to impossible.
My family, on the other hand, doesn’t do anything. As kids, we almost never went on vacations. Four days in Ocean City was a major deal! So visiting my folks meant either hanging around the house with them or using their place as a launch point for playing tourist on our own. They live in the boonies north of Baltimore, so going to DC or Annapolis required at least an hour one way, often more.
Hanging with family was just meh for me. Especially after the few times my sweetie and I had real, actual vacations - like when we spent a week in Key West! Ah, bliss… That, to me, is vacation - getting away and relaxing. I have nothing against either side of the family and there are many enjoyable aspects of our visits, but it’s still not a vacation.
Arrgh. Life is frustrating today. I’m on my new computer and there are still things wrong with it that need fixing. arrgh. Damn me. At least I’m sure they can be fixed. It just needs to be figured out how.
Also, I was going to go to someone for a music lesson today but he hasn’t gotten back to me recently, so I need to try to contact him. And he doesn’t answer emails that quickly, and so I’ll probably have to phone him. And I have this weird dislike of talking to people on the phone, even people I know really well. I don’t know why. I’m just weird.
FTR, the pre-hijack question doesn’t just have to be NYR that you gave up on, it could be anything. For an MMP related example, I’ve given up on Doggbutt :o
Oh no, you blurfed in two MMPs! When they are merged, the blurfs will cross streams, resulting in Human sacrifice, dogs & cats living together*…mass hysteria!
I came across an index card from January. I wrote on it: practice gratitude and forgiveness. Haven’t done either. For Lent I was going to get up half an hour earlier and meditate. Haven’t done that.
In vacation news, I am going to Lexington KY next month for the Rolex 3 Day Event which is really 5 days, and in the fall going to Paris. Paris France, not Paris Kentucky.
Up and caffeinated. It’s gonna be 76 today, and I’m off. I may sit on the porch and drink beer this afternoon. As far as resolutions, I haven’t really given up on anything. I’m awesome as is.
I’m sitting this week’s OP out, just to spite you.
Up and ingesting caffeine. It seems to be faulty.
I’ve given up on getting to bed at a reasonable hour on Sunday nights. There’s Walking Dead, Talking Dead, and John Oliver’s show. And that is why I work from home on Mondays – I need the extra two hours of sleep!
