Today I have to finish pricing out a lunch for a client. Yesterday I went to the store to get the food prices, or at least most of them. I am just so not looking forward to this. This person wants an ultra healthy menu (like, items that I have to go get at a specialty store) on a McDonald’s budget. I just don’t see how I’m going to make this work. But, try I must.
Guess I’d better get to it.
I decided to take today off (yeah, I got that kinda job and believe me, I appreciate it). I’ll go play with Bob teh Wonder Pony this afternoon then get Chinese take-out. I’d be happy to go to a party or have a party but I have friends that are as boring as me. Maybe my resolution should be to find pahr-tay animal friends!
I make sort-of resolutions. I have three things I’m going to work on over the next three months, with punishments and rewards to keep me on track:
- Stick to budget
- Exercise 4 days a week
- Keep to my chores schedule
#1 does not apply this week as I plan to blow my gas budget heading towards Charlanta North today. It falls under “emergency, so it doesn’t matter about that.” My dad’s a stubborn old coot like the rest of the family, so I expect to see him up and around by this time next year.
Am awake, barely.
Don’t usually do much if I spend NYE at home. When I visit Far-Away Best Friend at the end of the year, we spend the night with friends and have a lovely party that includes lots of music, singing and laughter. If I’m at my mom’s, there’s a party at somebody’s house.
I’m going to make pork chops and sauerkraut; not sure if tonight or tomorrow. Made Puerto Rican rice and beans (well, pigeon peas) for dinner last night; I’m pretty sure that counts as black-eyed peas and rice, right?).

Don’t mind me. I’m just here to bitch. So far I’ve priced out ONE recipe and was as generous as I could be. She’s already at 57% of her budget on just this one item. :dubious:
GT, looks like you guys got a little bit more snow down there than we did, but not by much.
Sticky - I hope you’re not going to give anything away to this “customer.” I know my mother dealt with stuff like that early on in her catering career. She got tired of it and just flat-out told people “If this is what you want, this is what it will cost.” I don’t know how many, if any, decided not to hire her, but I know her level of aggravation dropped considerably. If someone doesn’t want to pay for quality, oh well too bad so sad…
The price is the price. Unless you’re just doing it for fun, in which case, have a ball. But small business folk absolutely do not deserve to be abused in that way, nor should they undervalue themselves.
We hired a young couple to do some work for us, and the quote they gave was ridiculously low, nor would they take any interim payments. They’ve done a lot, but still haven’t finished, and they haven’t taken a dime from us. We’ve already decided that they’re getting about 30% more than they asked for because they were just too cheap. I’m all for a good bargain, but doggone, don’t cheat yourself!
Sticky, I say you tell her the actual cost of what she wants and let her decide what she really wants for lunch. Or, on previous, what Moooommm said. Doesn’t sound like fun.
So, I went to look for something about why it’s called xkcd (it’s just a bunch of letters that you can’t pronounce as a word, apparently) and got lost. Got caught up reading about the April Fool’s comic he did this year (Umwelt) and found this reddit discussion and this album with all the variations. Not sure how I missed it live.
Also, today’s Google doodle links to a video and to a map where you can add your resolutions.

Thanks guys, I know. I’m going to give her per item prices of her stuff and some of my ideas priced the same way and she can pick and choose. It’s just frustrating.
StickyBuns if they insist on free range gerbil and virgin quail eggs or whatever it is they want, then they should expect to pay top dollah for high end quality. Don’t cheat yourself like MOOOOOOM said.
Quarterly report is done and on it’s way to TPTB. YAY!!!

:smack: I did it again today; forgot to put the thermostat on temporary “I’m home today, don’t freeze my ass off” setting.
My first round of drawings are done and gone. I’m waiting for **FCD **to finish the model he’s working on so I can do the detailed drawings. I’ve done some bookkeeping and updating, and my white board is full of drawing numbers and change orders - yay! Having a list means I’ve still got work. That means a lot when you’re a temp.
Almost lunch time - I’m ready!
I’m going to stay up until midnight tonight. I need to make sure that this heaping pile of a year is good and dead!

I wanted to go to the bank today to add my son to my checking account but he has to have a photo ID. I guess me saying I’m his momma isn’t good enough ID. We can’t go to the MVA to get his learner’s because they are closed.
I’m grumpy as hell anyway.
Supposed to go to dinner with the SO tonight, RedLobster I think.
I think I’m just gonna run away from home but with the damn OnStar they can track me down.
It’s just a built in cell phone. There’s a fuse somewhere…

Yay, Dad’s Christmas present arrived today! Not… exactly in time, but at least now I’m ready for his birthday…
I do not do resolutions; I need to get a job, but I can’t see the point in resolving to get one, as it’s not exactly in my control.
I’m going to a friend’s house for a board games and stuff night tonight- I’m driving, so have to stay sober, but I don’t think it’s going to be mad party time anyway. Should be fun. Am making cheesy twist things to bring.
This is a good point. I was going to go to bed somewhat earlier because of the race in the morning, but I think you have me convinced to stay up. I’m going downtown earlier in the evening, but I don’t plan to stay there until midnight. I don’t want to deal with the traffic coming home.
My pricing is almost complete. Swampy, how did you know what she was asking for???
