You said it. And the best thing is not wasting time on useless things like commuting and going to the store when everyone else goes. We drove around the country and didn’t have to worry about vacation days.
The thing I’ve noticed most is that I no longer hate Sunday night. Not because I hated going to work, but because it forced me to confront all the stuff I didn’t get done over the weekend.
I retired in May of 2020. My plans of going to even more live music than before were temporarily put on hold and spending the whole day fucking off on the internet hasn’t gotten old yet. I am loving my life.
I have been to 69 live music events in 2022 so far. I am finally going to finish getting my house remodel done. I have been hanging out with friends and friends with benefits a lot. I have been exercising more.
In short, I do whatever the fuck I want whenever the fuck I want to do it. It’s a dream come true. I finished grad school 32 years ago and my goal was to retire between 58 and 62 years old. I did it at 56. I am so fortunate and feel so blessed every day.
Don’t worry; by next week Mark Cuban or Elon Musk will do something to manipulate investor perception and cause the market to spike again, probably doubling the market cap of Tesla or making CostPlus the world’s most valued pharmaceutical company despite only having a fraction of a percent of their markets. Or just heavily invest your retirement fund into cryptocurrency because as they are telling us this is the future of money.
As you can see from here, there isn’t any sort of sharp increase in delinquencies, which is a very strong sign for the economy.
Also, the job market is strong and I expect the right labor market to continue. Not only did Covid help encourage many boomers still in the workforce to retire, it also caused many dual income couples to become single income. The current political climate means that we’re highly unlikely to see any increase in immigration.
Bosda - The job market still seems very robust here in Rutherford County. When do you plan to look for a job and what are you going to look for? Probably better to get established sooner than later if things start going south.
It’s hard to answer these questions without knowing what are the “scary economic forecasts” you’re talking about. What are you hearing and where are you hearing it from?
You should know that people’s economic outlooks can be highly distorted by their partisan affiliation. The doom-and-gloom forecasts started as soon as Biden was elected, while employment and corporate profits were having some of their best quarters ever, even before inflation started to tick up. Inflation is an authentic concern, but keep in mind the actual impact is being greatly overstated by people who decided that Biden’s economy was a failure even before he took office, and before inflation ever raised its head.
Well there’s always going to be a recession eventually. That’s how economies work. When the economy is good, people think it will be good forever. When it slows, they act like it’s the end of the world.
Yet another good piece of economic news, the number of layoffs is at a record low.
Yes, it definitely makes headlines when some of the companies that boomed during the last couple years are having to cut back and layoff employees, but the job market is still super hot and likely will remain that way.
